I think the answer to this is: You Can't, since there's no mention of it in this thread or the original, but I'm going to ask anyway.
Is there a way to get to the rooftop? I can hear a patrolling guard up there, and when in the art gallery, or the area where the asset is, he can hear me. In fact, when I acquired the asset, a guy dressed in noble attire came charging in to investigate. I was unable to track him, so I don't know where he went. I'm just assuming that he was on the rooftop, and heard the raising portcullis.

Yeah, I'm sure. You can also here them when out on the ledge that runs behind the guest rooms.

Here you go. This is from the 3rd floor room with the portcullis.
I will say though, you may have been correct that it's the guards from the floor below and not above. If that is the case, it's a bug in my opinion, as someone on the 2nd floor shouldn't be able to hear you on the 3rd floor, and you shouldn't be able to hear them.

I'm not 100% sure but I think I found a bug.
Can't get this objective to work.
If you enter Cripplewood's room before you find out that they are not meeting at the mansion, if you then go back to C's room to get the new meeting place, the chest is empty - no scroll.
Which would kinda break the mission.
Wouldn't it be better if this one scroll also just appeared on his desk like the ones about Osgood?
Assuming, of course, this is a bug and not just me being blind.
And one question about something that hasn't been answered in the threads yet:
How do I open the secret door in the labyrinth? It's marked on the map with a "?"

About your 2nd question:
you can open it from the other side only. Just before you leave the water at the end of the mission, examine the underwater walls closely.

If you play on expert, there is no blackjack. Otherwise look in guard's room in the prison.
