I remember a mission where if you left an unconscious body in sight of the AI they would go berserk. But I don't remember which one it was. Some missions the AI go into alert mode if they find you moved something or cut down a banner looking for loot. I don't know if that qualifies for randomization. It would be fun to play those missions over if we had a list and the types of randomizations.

Isn't that every mission in Thief: Gold and Thief 2 with standard AI scripting? Guards reacting to slashed banners is standard AI scripting too.

This mission was different in the way they acted. It has been so long that I can't remember exactly what they did but I believe they spawned new guards and the entire street would be blocked off forcing you to reload. It was fun to watch. There are many missions that have the AI scripted differently in the way they normally react. I guess I am going to have to start all over again to find them and take better notes.

Haplo's "The Library of Babel" had a pretty subtle but neat trick of randomizing objects' placement in certain rooms every time you came through. The eponymous library of the mission had literally millions of different permutations.

Not sure which FM that is, but "The Unknown Treasure" by GORT featured city watch guards that would freak out and move MUCH faster if a body was spotted. There were also scripted events in which new guards were spawned throughout the city as you progressed.

Sorry for posting a few months late, but I can confirm that the fourth mission in Gems of Provenance has randomization. Only for a puzzle though.

I reconize making a mission 100% random seems to be really interesting... Hmm... Once time perhaps... If I need a break with my project and a moment of madness I'll think about making such a mission...
Of course, the map will not change it face! xD But goals, guards etc. Challengeful...
ValmontPhl on 18/4/2015 at 23:16
What type of randomization are we talking here? Are we talking 1 out of x number of predetermined possibilities (such as AI spawn/routes/key locations) or unknown, truly random outcomes, like dice roll?
Sorry for my ignorance, but I've only managed to make a useless purple lined box, supposedly a 'room'.
FireMage on 18/4/2015 at 23:24
xD A room is just a box to make the sound able to exist in mission or sometimes it is used to enable some traps ^^
Brushes make your world! You can't move it! You can change their texture with some specific traps but this is not easy to do.
No, in this thread, there are talking about random simple thing like "Ears Dropping" (or Something like that, I don't know the english name of the mecanist seminary). A mission where the item is not always at the same place. In this thread it has been shown that just a few mission have such thing ;)
And me, I think that it could be interesting to create something with more random things. A guards who is not always present in that corridor.
The loot is not placed at the same places. Some events happens and sometimes not. Some doors are locked or not.
If a vault is present, the code is never the same. And we can be more and more mad and do that the plot never happen like in your previous game ^^

if i am not mistaken there are a small hand full of missions where you track people in different places i think the paths they take are based on level of difficulty?
Renault on 19/4/2015 at 06:08
That's not random though. You're talking about a predetermined activity (depending on difficulty).
