Could anyone let me know what missions made that have used the rat character object as an important or integral part to the progression of any FM stories?
I remember one where this character was mechanical and maybe 2 more missions where there had to be an exchange of food for a trade item or before progressing in the mission.
I think there was even one where the rodent had planned to lead a revolt of some sort against humans.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

This is "The Ties That Bind" - an excellent small mission by Hit Deity. It's a mission from the second small mission contest, I believe.
"And in related news: an underground movement has been formed to counter the City's Air Conditioning for the Homeless campaign. They are calling themselves the RATS: Reactionaries Against Thermal Sequestering. Nothing else is known about these individuals, but one unrevealed source says they are actually radioactively mutated sewer rats that are ticked off by the sudden drop in ambient temperature in the sewers. Obviously deranged, this informant refused to reveal the source of his information. More on that story as it develops...."

I remember several FMs that do this but I can't think of titles at the moment. I'll give it some thought. Meanwhile, in Finals at the Academy by LarryG, there is something you can only accomplish by interacting with a rat in some way. It isn't necessary to move the mission forward but it is worth doing.

In Sterlino's "The Flying Age", you have to interact with a mouse/rat at the beginning of part two, I believe, in order to get out of jail.

One of the missions used a clockwork version of the object, but it looked like a mouse. A gear and another part had to be obtained to make it work.
I can't remember the name of the mission but it was certainly a very fun use of the little creature.

There are clockwork mice in Sliptip's "Ashen Age Part 1", but I don't think you have to obtain anything extra in order to get them to work. At least on the easiest setting. Sorry I can't be of more help. I am interested to know what mission you are thinking of.

I am checking Ashen Age out again right now, but I do not think that was it. I think it was around the time of the beauty contest some years back, but I am not completely sure.
Squeaky, (I am not really sure of the name, but it fits) followed a particular path somewhat like a robotic vacuum cleaner, and obtained an object like a key through an opening only a mouse could get through.
I also remember a similar one where the mouse turned out to be a gas bomb.
I am only just starting Ashen Age over again, so it might be a bit before I come across the clockwork rat.

Most of my missions are controlled by blind, deaf, dumb, invisible, and invincible rats. Obviously you never see them, but I always find the knowledge that rats are pulling the strings behind the scenes to be hilarious.

Ashen Age turned out to have the one of the features mentioned above as far as clockwork rats go.
I don't think this is the one I am looking for.
Though it is still funny to watch them smoke as the guards randomly chase them.
Still looking for the mission with the 'build-it-yourself' clockwork rat.

The more I thought about your description, the more this sounds familiar, but could you be thinking of a spider-like contraption that goes through walls and ducts instead of a mouse? I can't remember which FM this is from, but I remember there was a museum area and it is blocked off until you get the spider-like contraption to move through the walls to unlock a gate or something. I'm not doing this mission justice by giving my vague recollection, but let me run through a few missions and see if I can come up with the title. Even then, it still may not be the one your looking for.
