The publishers want to stop "week 1" piracy really. Hard to crack DRM does work in their in their favour, eg Riddick: Dark Athena took about 3-4 weeks to get a working crack and (
http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=673039) that did halt a lot of piracy apparently.
Who would have guessed?
I guess it stopped about 3-4 weeks worth of piracy?
The important question is whether it increased sales.

I really doubt it. I was interested in torrenting it to see if it was worth the money (seeing as I already own the first game), I didn't rush out and buy it when I found that the crack wasn't out.

I'm sure it does.
The people that are really interested in the game and has waited for it either buys it directly or download the cracked version (
if its available
directly, otherwise even this bunch will buy it). I've done this myself quite a few times, just thought to myself "ok, i'll download now and then buy", but then i never got around getting it anyways (e.g finished the game, lost interest in it). I bet i'm not alone doing that.
So yes, i think this definitely increases sales. There's always a bunch of whiners claming they will never buy it now becuase it's DRM and it'll blow up their computer etc, but i think they're a pretty small and really loud/whiny bunch when you look at the bigger picture.
