*sigh* I ordered the damn thing. I was going to wait a bit longer but every blurb and review and preview and stuff I read, I don't comprehend the words. All I hear in my noodle is "This game was made for you. It was made of things you like, just for you, doing things you think games ought to do. Even if we don't get it just right you'll probably like it a lot. And you should. We ignored all the BS theory floating around about what the mainstream can handle and made it just for you instead."

I really like the game, great sense of openness, great atmosphere, guns feels good, controls are good, missions are fun.
I can't believe Gamespot gave this an 8.5 and Clear Sky a 7 while giving a totaly, unimaginative crap game such as GoW a 9.6 and they even have the heart to say that the story could be more political in FC2? yeah, like GoW has a good story, that's a good one!
It's kind of sad that reviewers seems to be of the opinion that the genre shouldn't evolve, rather the opposite. E.g in GoW they've even removed jumping so you can never take any alternative path anywhere. This is of course great for the lazy developers since they can make the level design ultra linear now and never need to think "hmm ok, but what would happen if the player takes this route?". You also lose the sense that you are in control of your character, but the reviewers doesnt seem to mind, "uh, it's one less button to keep track of, its all good!"

Yeah, I pre-ordered it as well. At least Ubisoft included revocation. That's what helped tip the scales. They've been a bit more ethical about the situation than EA.
Of course, I'm sure Ubisoft didn't just do this out of the goodness of their hearts. Ubi might have done exactly the same as EA, if EA hadn't done it first.

I completed 8% (yes, there's an in-game statistic) in a few hours of playing on the hardest difficulty. Impressions?
Graphics: looks better than COD4, but it's nowhere as detailed as Crysis.
Performance: Ran smoothly in 1680x1050 2xAA 16xAF on ultra high settings on a Q6600 and HD4850.
Gameplay: GTA in Africa but with more sympathetic characters.
Difficulty: It's pretty hard, actually. Death is swift and frequent.
AI: Stupid, but they flank and shoot like experts.
Bugs: A few times enemies spawned outside of my safe house.
Realism: Items respawn, healing is instant, there's no inventory, there are zones where your weapons are disabled, interactive objects glow, important npcs can only be incapacitated by enemies (afaik), weapons only jam in your hands, enemies have infinite ammo, there's an in-game stat for everything, stats are very in your face (eg you pick up a diamond and get "you've collected 8 out of 220 diamonds in the game!!"), there's a low limit on your ammo, you can only carry three weapons, world is very cluttered, etc
Story: Well, I sure hope you aren't the Jackal.
Funny stuff:
When you buddy's incapacitated, you're given a choice: stick a needle in them, or kill them.
Buying weapons/upgrades is modeled after online shops.
Thoughts: Playable, but could've been a lot better.

On the contrary, I really like this game. It feels like Stalker, but in Africa. :P

i doubt ubisoft montreal is capapable of crafting such an unforgiving game like stalker. i expect fun entertainment and many explosions with arcadey movement (no prone/low crouch) tailored for all kinds of fps fans instead of dark undergrounds bathed in acid light with the distant grunts of invisible monsters lingering in the radioactive air.

It seems it's too dumbed down, atmosphere lacking, and cartoony to be compared with stalker judging from the first impressions. I had hopes for this game. :tsktsk:

Not a fan of the game either. Crysis, which was a disappointment (too) is a masterpiece in comparison.

I've just started playing too, and I'm quite enjoying it. The shooting mechanics are satisfying, and it's fun to drive from mission to mission. It does a good job of trying to immerse you; I'm not quite seeing the brilliance that reviews have been praising, but it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination. I have to admit the AI doesn't seem that great at all, and I'll be turning up the difficulty probably.
