The only boss battle I recall is the chopper while you're on the boat. The final area was just a load of rocketmutants and ordinary mutants, followed by some elite troops guarding the weedy scientist FLUFF mentioned.

He's probably talking about Krieger.

Yeah, that was an intensely annoying fight and it was kinda anticlimactic from there onwards I found. The lava bowl with the 4 cyberdemon stylee mutants after that was a nightmare, but I did stupidly choose the hardest difficulty setting -- and unlike a lot of modern games, Far Cry on hard is hard.
Somehow Far Cry on medium was hard until I'd played the demo a bit, which I found unusual because I can usually jump straight into an FPS. It seemed to me that when I did get used to it, it was the AI having forced me to play in a much more cautious and strategic way than usual.

The only way to play farcry is on its hardest setting. It requires one part ninja one part Rambo. The AI is not particularly smart, but they can wing you and take you out.
Really those who thought farcry was overtly linear are suffering from delusional thoughts.
Anyway anyone feel like their following around where the survivor crew shoots? It seems like they skip a season too so will far cry 3 take place in Thailand?

Yeah, come on there are lots of areas in Far Cry where there are multiple routes to the target and checking them all out is just people wanting a sense of completion. IRL you'd take one and keep going. HL2 is certainly much more linear. Far Cry has the more beautiful setting but HL2's is certainly more evocative imho.
Far Cry 2's setting looks just fantastic. But then I used to live in Africa and I miss the hot dry plains...

Yeah, come on, I took the paths which seemed most suitable to me. And how exactly can you replicate that without choice?

i tried all the non-obvious paths, like just straight up thru the jungle to the mountaintop. no roads. FarCry was brilliant in that regard. you could adjust the playstyle to your liking, well, much more than in other games of that time (take that HL2). I played one time thru with sniping/long range fight only another time with melee combat/desert eagle. each time played different.
of course you learn to trick the AI and know their flaws at heart. but that's much better than HL2 where you just stood still and pumped in their face because the combine gave you no challenge and had no one-shot-kills.

You used melee combat in Far Cry? Are you sure you were playing the PC version?
On normal at least, I found the knife the most useless weapon ever because about 2 or 3 meters away the enemy would turn around and spot you no matter what. And you mean to say that you took on the rocket mutants with a desert eagle and a knife?
mothra on 28/8/2007 at 12:21
medium difficulty.
rocket mutants: run AWAY
most of the parts of the game could be achieved thru avoiding.
how do you kill a merc with your knife ?
use the rocks. always use the rocks. did I repeat you should use the rocks ?
they are unlimited and can herd the mercs into one spot or disperse them for enough time. besides, when using the machete you are sprinting at the game's highest speed. it is doable.
small mutants need 1-2 hits with the machete and they are down. the machete is mighty !
i said I like FarCry :)
(last level can be cheated to get around the mutants, look for the FarCry speed run, i took many hints from there)

The best way I found on that last part was to jam the door with a chair or something from the weapons area. I only managed to get it work once, though. You can get all of the Trigens to herd up to the platform and they can't attack you, but you can shoot at them.
