another tip: if your stuck in a small room, run AT the rocket guys. they are clumsy like the Mercs and will go thru a few animations before they start shooting, so enough time to circumvent them.

Oh, they've one-upped Crysis with the logging simulation - individual branches can be shot off. :D
Wonder how far they'll take the fire propagation though, because fires can be immense in Africa.
Right now I think I'll like this better than Crysis, because Crysis still has the aliens instead of the mutants.

My lack of a suitable PC makes my cry.
However, I can always hope for a PS3 version of either game. A PS3 port would be ideal, due to the keyboard and mouse support. (UT3 is already doing a 1 to 1 port to the PS3, with full keyboard support and cross-platform play).

atm it's pc only. and this demo has left me wanting more. looks definitely better than the concept of crysis (with its emphasis on the suit). I just love body awareness and those healing animations are sweet.I also like that the biggest feature crysis advertises - shooting trees - is just one feature of many more in FC2. at least it looks like it to me. the buddy system on the other hand could be a bad thing if sloppily executed.

You know the quality of games is horrible when they brag about shooting trees.
Seriously speaking, Far Cry 2 looks quite awesome really. The fire is indeed awesome and the realistic feel they're going for should be better than those crappy mutants the first one had. I'm a bit miffed about the "healing" stuff though. It's hardly realistic that when you're shot, you just pick out the bullet from your leg and continue on your merry way. The healing things seem like an annoying burden more like than a realistic healing system.

I agree it's not very realistic the way you heal, but it's still better than using bandages or just walking over a "med pak". And especially since this also comes with an animation (pulling out the bullet, which i think is pretty cool). I dont think picking up a mobile phone to call an ambulance would work very good ;)
mothra on 12/9/2007 at 11:49
of course it's not realistic but it does 2 things:
- somehow connects being hit with your avatar's body more than simply giving you an aural indication and some vision blur
- it has you stop shooting to heal yourself and therefore creates tension which I like (like weapon breakage). let's hope they put in some decent recoil cause in the video it doesn't look like it. and no bulletdrop it seems.
this game looks so much better than Crysis it's unbelievable they hid it so long from the general public. I hope they get the Hype - machine running until next spring.
Right now Crysis goes against COD4:MW (same exact release date) but I think COD4 will be shot out of the water with it's middle-age concept of linear rail-shooter gaming. I don't care which period or continent they pick for their game it's still gonna be COD2 with different skins and weapons. No gameplay-video of COD4 has done anything for me to convince me that this will be any good apart from the fact that InfinityWard can nail shooting mechanics in their sleep already. But I'm sure the press will eat it up as the next big thing. And it's multiplatform, so it's GOTTA be good.
I hope FC2 will be able to swim on the Crysis hype because I fear that people will already be bored with this play-style when FC2 comes out
and will forget that FC2 is much more innovative and interesting up till now.

This portion made me very happy:-

How are the PS3/360 versions shaping up and did they impose any limitations on developing the PC version?
Pharand: The console versions look and play great. They're stunning!
After the Games Conventions in Leipzig last year, the engineering team had as a mandate to port our engine (DUNIA) to console. So it could be used by other Ubisoft titles.
The team wanted to push its limits and decided to use Far Cry 2 data. The game looked great and we decided at that point to do some R&D to see the feasibility of having the same game on consoles.
They did it! So why not have more gamers enjoy the experience?
That being said we started as a PC game and we are still a dedicated PC team. Since we want to have as many PC gamers enjoy the experience, the console developments actually helped the mid-requirement settings on PC.
That's the long answer, the short one: we did not impose limitations on the PC version.

1st of all, We have heard that last sentence before...
2nd, I LOOOOVE FarCry (was playing it yesterday, actually). I really hope this does well. Surprisingly, I have NEVER given 1 fat crap about Crysis, even when my FarCry Multiplayer buddies were creaming over it 2 years ago. It just doesn't do it for me. FC 2 ,though, just looks spectacular.
