Dug into the Map Editor this weekend and revived a classic!

Map Editor impressions
I wasn't too hyped about the editor from the pre-release footage. Map editors for big budget games usually try to walk the fine line between being both accessible and powerful and often end up being a bit bleh, like DOOM's Snapmap editor. The FC5 editor is very easy and pleasant to use, and features tons of objects, and switching between editor and playtesting is almost instantanous. The terrain-sculpting tools are great, perhaps even better than Unity's! But there's also clear drawbacks. The maximum play area isn't terribly big, I use pretty much all of it in this level, there's a budget on how many objects you can place(I maxed out the number of vehicles), and you can only choose from a certain selection of pre-defined objectives. Most problematically for me was that you can't explicitly tell the AI to patrol or use vehicles, you can only tell them to go to a specific area at the start, and if there's a vehicle near their spawn point they'll use it to drive over there. Overall tho, I really enjoyed using the editor, and I might make a few more maps with it.

Hurk is good in this one. Yes, really. In case you don't remember him, Hurk has been perhaps the only connective tissue between the last few games, appearing in FC3 and 4, and also his ancestor Urki was in FC: Primal. He's always been portrayed as a wacky guy who likes to blow stuff up and his writing has consistently been cringe-worthy LOL SO RANDOM bullshit. When I saw his portrait on the mission map I thought "oh shit, ok well let's get this over with" and headed over to his location, but I was surprised and delighted by the meeting. He's still mainly a comedy relief character, but grounded in reality in a way that makes him much funnier. In fact he might be the most well-written and likeable character in the game. Well done, Ubi, you finally made a good Hurk.

Well, duh. That applies to just about every game every released, it's got nothing to do with Ubi.
Ubi is a particularly egregious offender, although not quite on EAs level. And not quite "every" game. Just ones from mega publishers.

Aaaaaaand I'm done. At 42 hours it did start to drag a bit towards the end, I would've been fine with the whole thing wrapping up sooner. I was curious to see how the ending would be after John Walker declare it the (
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/04/11/far-cry-5-has-the-worst-endings-in-all-of-gaming-history/) WORST EVER. It's not
that bad. Gameplaywise it's a couple of pretty fun shootout and driving segments. It could've been much worse. Like, it could've been a QTE bossfight like in FC3 or Dying Light, for instance. Storywise it's puuuuuuuuure garbage tho.

Finished as well, haven't been this bored in ages. Waco in a larger scale certainly is an interesting idea as well as brainwashing but it's a bit too much to fly a high up in the sky and suddenly be dragged out of a mission because the story demands it. The outposts have never been easier either.
They did it correctly by removing the minimap but it's still largely about going in the direction the game points the player in.
I didn't think Hurk was so funny this time around either. FC4 had buzzsaw which turned the player into a god and in this case there are the helicopters. One would think that they would have taken the time to code the AI to seek shelter if missiles were raining on them, but nope. Shoot a few and few come out of hiding and make themselves easy targets.
At this point I'm hoping the DLCs to be vastly different, a sort of Blood Dragon type of thing.

A thought: such unfiltered enthusiasm for snuff porn may be better displayed on places like 4chan. The enthusiasm for incredibly low-effort tasteless jokes, however, is probably never going to be welcome anywhere.
(Seriously. I get the cliches, but those redneck jokes seem to have been written by 5-year olds without a developed sense of humour.)

I thoroughly enjoyed this game and thought the story was great- including the endings. Probably my favorite FC game since FC2.
