I have a feeling this came up before, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, I like the city creeping missions the most. Having multiple buildings to break and enter is more entertaining to me than sneaking into one big mansion.
I used to hate the undead, but crypt missions have also really grown on me.

I really like Return to the Cathedral and I go back and play it on expert once in a wile. It would be awesome to play it coop with someone else. I also really like the Sword.

Large cities. I just love the atmosphere and having the ability to roam & explore.

I liked Shipping and Receiving's multiple objectives, and huge explorable area. Lots of people to overhear, as well, and interesting side quests.

I think my favourite type is city with loads of buildings to break and enter...loads of hard to get at places...loot and conversations, and dirty little secrets etc...lol:cool:
I prefer them to places like the Lost City etc ... more rural and more open spaced...but having said that...something like "The seven sisters" Night 3 blew me away!...as with anything, it depends on how good the gameplay is.
so I will have to back down and say I am grateful for anything to play:D :D
and lets hope theres something to play soon:bored:

Night 3 of the Seven Sisters was rural, wasn't it? I find that to be one of the most original Thief settings for a full-scale mission. Great mission.
As for atmosphere, there is so much variety. Where to start? There's one older Thief: Dark Project FM which I find has a very unique and conveying atmosphere to it: the Treasury. It was released in the days when the Thief fictional universe wasn't as developed as it is now, and is hence free from today's FM trends and conventions; the voice acting (superb by the way!), scenario, and organisation of the plot and factions hint that the author was aiming at orienting Thief in a new direction that unfortunately wasn't perused in the later instalments, or in FMs ever since in general. The drawbridge can be buggy, but the mission itself definitely has a memorable atmosphere to it!

We must admit that if we didn't like Sir Bafford Mansion we wouldn't be here, right? Thief world has a whole bunch of cool settings: mansions, city streets, forests, Haunted places, some other kind of weird locations. Each of these setting has its unique charm. My favorites are haunted places (cause' they give me the creeps, especially The Cradle) and mansions. But there is something in all that deserves our gratitude :)

I'd say a TDP marathon would be a nice atmosphere and out of this world, hehe.

My favorites have always been city missions with lots of buildings to explore and rooftops to climb. I don't think there is an atmosphere I don't like because diversity keeps the game interesting, but I do prefer city & mansion missions.
