And 90s. Though I absolutely love some of the tracks in Mass Effect 1 & 2.

In no particular order, some games that I really liked music from (and are written as I think of them):
Quake 1 and 2, Thief 1 and 2, Fighting Force, Jackie Chan Stuntmaster, System Shock 2, Total Annihilation, Morrowind, Oblivion, Red Dead Redemption, Metal Gear Solid, the first doom's E1M1 song (there's been multiple versions of it, but I still loved the original midi version)

Always loved the cool ambient soundtracks from Myst and Riven. I know these games are probably universally hated on these boards, but I'll always love 'em and usually do a replay once per year. Also, the Zork Nemesis soundtrack is one of my all-time faves - Mark Morgan in his gaming music debut.

Myst and Riven universally hated? Here? You must be thinking of some other place.

How about the music from Need for Speed 1, 2 and 3? I always loved that stuff. Even some of the menu music was great. I was playing it on an old Windows 98 laptop with JBL speakers yesterday. It is a shame that the PC versions of the game had their sound cut in half (22 KHz) as opposed to the PSX versions with 44 KHz. It makes the highs sound cut off and detracts from the immersion a bit.

Agreed on Need for Speed 1 (NFSHS you mean.) I went so far as to rip all the songs from the game and made a CD from it many years ago. All the newer NFS games opted for the rock and rap route instead of techno, which is a bit of a bummer as I think techno fits racing better.

As much as I love Homeworld's sweeping, orchestral soundtrack, I tend to prefer Homeworld: Cataclysm's music, as it has the same epic feel but with a bit more energy. (

Anyone else ever noticed that the Cataclysm music has a distinctive aftereffect? I can't really describe it, it's like oversharpening an image, except with music.

There's an album called Whiteout by a jazz group called In The Country. I fucking love that album because it reminds me of the Minecraft soundtrack in some ways.
