It has been at least a decade and a half since I've played Super Metroid, but I remember the soundtrack being very atmospheric. You could hear rain and thunder in the background on the first level, and the title music was awesomely haunting.
I connected my SNES to the computer just so I could listen to the DKC music today.

why would you do that when you can just go to youtube

I'm not a fan of audio compression unless it is at at least 160 kbps.

does it even fucking matter with chiptunes
lost_soul on 16/8/2011 at 05:46
Sure it does. Aggressive sound compression causes a "warbling" effect which is especially noticeable in the higher frequencies. And technically I don't think SNES music is a chip tune because it is sample based and the sounds themselves weren't generated by the chip. NES music would be an example of chip tunes.

so fucking get mp3s or one of those spc players off zophar instead of going to all that trouble

I've always really loved the title theme to the game Reunion. It wasn't on YouTube so I corrected that mistake and uploaded it myself. (

Man DKC2 had some great music too... especially the ice music, the brambles and the woods

It turns out this song was heavily inspired by something else... but I still prefer the sound of the SNES version. This is one of those songs that would probably not sound as good if remade. The original samples just fit perfectly with the melody.
My favorite part is 0:33
