So... While, no doubt, this subject has been touched on in the past, here goes a shot at it anyways.

Mine would have to be the opening theme for Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. All flaws of ToB aside, that theme is... Awesomeness packed into 2 minutes of auditory goodness. Or somesuch. "Inspiring" would be the one word that I'd use to describe it. And, as much as I love just about the entire score in Deus Ex, and quite a few other game melodies, they simply don't compare.

So... What's your favourite piece?

love the final fantasy theme, you know the one that is in the intro to most or all of the games (at least up to 6... i havent played the newer ones) .. i think it might be called " the crystal theme". also, the map music in final fantasy 6 , i think it's the same music as terra's theme as well. i also really like the 1502AD music in chrono trigger (or whatever the year is for the medieval age , the map music there). and some of the tunes from secret of mana like right at the beginning of the game, when you are walking along the path to the first town

the "warbot" table from silverball plus has really good music too

and the song "long white cloud" on gripshift for psp

there's lots of good game music out there

Just off the top of my head, the Highwind Theme from FF7 and the Hephaestos main theme from Anachronox are definitely on my list of favourite game music ever.

I'm sure if I were to sit and think about it I'd be able to come up with a few more.

Possibly the Mario or Zelda theme (Koji Kondo is the best), but there is quite a bit of game music I love.
