Hearing [the Akuda bar theme] loop 23 times while [Beyond Good & Evil] installed pretty much killed it for me.
Yes holyshit what is it with developers embedding music(or ambient sounds) in installers? What if I want to listen to my own music and surf while it's installing? When I want to start playing the game I'll play it, no need to make the installer "part of the experience".
That being said, it's still a nice tune though.

I don't know - I've always liked the more interesting installers. I have fond memories of the original
Command & Conquer's install routine.
Having said that, if they play music they should bloody well make it optional by having an on/off switch. As you said, henke, people might prefer listening to their own music, or watching videos online etc.

1 - Morrowind's opening
2 - Anything Homeworld, Angus Dei for example
3 - Anything Thief, the closing for Thief 2 was very sweet
4 - Anything Arcanum
5 - Tristam theme in Diablo 1
6 - Anything Mirror's Edge, Still alive without vocals
7 - Still alive from Portal
Man, I'm not ever going to finish this list...

:D I love this one almost as much as
Rouge Squadron. It sounds like the music for
Homeworld is being sung by a choir of Scots Taffers!

Oh, does anyone remember the installers for Interstate '76 and Battlezone 1? Now those were cool.

I like too much stuff to choose a single fave. I'll just give mention to one particular game's tracks and their artists:
X3:
Alexei Zakharov and Natalia Yakovleva: In particular, "Peace 2" (The piece for the Kingdom End system)
Daniel Finney's stuff for Terran Conflict: Particularly "Theme 1" (Kuiper Belt) and "Hostile 1" (Mars).
The game has its issues, but it also has some
damn good music.
...Sorry, I lied. I'm also going to go low-tech and mention the MOD tracks done by (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straylight_Productions) Straylight Productions for Epic and Origin. Good stuff.

Having just installed Gothic again, I have to agree. I like to just have the damn thing running in the background and make a noise when I need to change discs. Having to mute that loud shit music, and then randomly go back to check on its progress is annoying.

Anybody else like the music in Defcon?
Koki on 11/6/2009 at 19:15
If I said that I do, would you believe it?

No?
Yes?
Maybe?
I don't know. Ask me when Satan puts on a coat.
