F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate versus Project Origin - by Digital Nightfall

Just watching the youtubed demo of F.E.A.R. 2 (aka Project Origin) leaves me wholly unimpressed, yeah, it's just a demo of an early version but it's also a near-carbon-copy of what F.E.A.R. was with updated graphics - oh, and the ability to create cover, which means it's probably got even more close quarters combat with identical soldiers in the same environment for longer than in the original game. Hrrr.

Awesome. I'm buying it!
(and yes, I say this with no hint of irony.)

Which would be my response if DX3 turned out to be a carbon copy of DX1 with better graphics, but with a standardish shooter? Blech. That's only one step away from the EA horrors of sport league with each year bringing slight graphical improvements with near identical gameplay.
What I like even more from a sequel than the graphically upgraded and slightly improved upon formula is when they convincingly break the mold and take what works into a new setting and change the gameplay rules a little a la Far Cry 2 - a game that, to me, looks incredibly intriguing in a sandboxy kind of way when I had little or no interest in the original. Indeed, I didn't even progress beyond the opening level because I disliked several elements of the gameplay and graphics.

Exactly. Wait for them to actually make the new game before judging it's content.
But I have to agree that it is no good if they will repeat the same formula again. In a true sequel I want something refreshing in terms of gameplay, a mix of old FEAR elements with new ones would be badass. And more enemy variety plz!

Well, they had that in the early previews for the original F.E.A.R.

If the sequel lets you shoot Aristide in the face, I'm buying 2 copies of it.

I'd much rather want to see her tortured in a paranormal way.

I'd rather have a Replica van land on her.

k so I finished it.
Verdict: middling for the first half with a few good moments; quality ramps up significantly in the second half though I do question the choice of making the clone facility look like fucking LV-426. Ending was a bit anticlimactic too. But overall I enjoyed the game, though I think as a whole, XP is the stronger of the two throughout.
