Great, now I've edited instead of posting, I'm that shaken :p

I like Steam for the convenience of patches and being able to redownload stuff (although I find the servers can be slow as balls when I really really want something). The downside is having to run their shitty web browser/chat client everytime you want to play a game.
I'm still in the minority who has no problems with the way EA is using SecureROM now though. Activation at install, no third party software, and no disc check = awesome.

^This.
Took me a week to actually get to play Half-Life 2 after I bought it. Actually, half a week, since I flawlessy installed a pirated version in between.

oh wow is it 2004 again?
blast from the paaaaaaaast
I'll be the first to admit Steam has its flaws, and in the early days Steam was a huge pain in the ass. But it's not like Valve just STOPPED working on it since then. It's infinitely better than it used to be and is a model for the future of digital distribution.

I have no idea what Steam used to be like, since I didn't actually use it for anything but demos until the Orange Box came out. I do know that since then I've had completely random issues downloading stuff at times, sometimes having to keep launching/cancelling repeatedly to trick the client into restarting the download process after it timed out.
I also wish there were a stripped down version of the client that would just log into your account and launch the game without loading the web browser/ad spamming/community shit.

So why am I now at 26% of updating steam when I should rather be shooting stuff since quite a while?
Oh, yeah, maybe I'll get to play it by tomorrow evening, that's better than a week.
