F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate versus Project Origin - by Digital Nightfall

I only have an issue if PeerGuardian 2 is active. I turn it off when I'm logged into Steam.
Also, vH, you live in Poland, don't you think that might have something to do with it? Your ISP, geographical location, touching yourself at night, some combination of the above?
Alternatively you could try and see if maybe your PC is blocking ports or whatever. Sitting around whining never solved anything.

Why the flying fuck would that matter? Yes, I live in the middle of nowhere, I'm on a gsm modem and my transmission is going through probably 50 proxy servers or something.
But the game's box doesn't state "DSL connection required". It states "Internet connection required for installing the game".
Why does it have to download the steam updates? Why do I need the steam updates? I want to play my game. If I want to patch my game, I go to a cafe and get the patch there if it's large, and until then I play without the patch.
I want to play the game I bought the same day I bring it home.

you can disable updates in steam -> game -> properties -> do not keep this game up 2 date

I'm still in the minority who has no problems with the way EA is using SecureROM now though. Activation at install, no third party software, and no disc check = awesome.
I sort of agree with this. There's a potential for problems down the line, sure, as with most online-dependent DRM methods, but it does seem to be the more comfy of them. If there were no concerns about limited activations and the possibility of activation servers going down sooner or later, I'd probably embrace it wholeheartedly.
As for Steam, I've never had to use it. I might with the new UT3 pack, apparently. But in all honesty, while I know full well how annoying it is to have to downloads tons of stuff before even getting into your new game from my brief stint with MMOs, I don't think having to set it all up once per OS install is that bad in the long run. It probably just seems that way for vH right now.

Side note - you may have struck right in vH's case, as per his own admission, but in regard to East European ISPs and the girth of their tubes in general, you might be surprised. Off (

Thank you for proving my point for me.

Because- suprise suprise- you could ostensibly use a 28.8 modem to log into and download from Steam.
Just because
your internet connection is shitty does
not reflect on Steam. Don't like it? Get better internet. Can't get better internet? Then go somewhere that has it. Can't do that? Then maybe you shouldn't be on the internet at all, go play outside or jerk off to naked women throwing darts at balloons to the soundtrack of dogs barking or whatever the fuck it is indignant rural assholes like you do.

LOL. You need an internet connection, they state this on the box...they cannot guarantee speeds, however. They are right, a dial-up will do the trick.

Enough with Polish ISPs, hurry up and finish the entirety of FEAR 1 and 2 and then write a post about it.

I can live with the aspect ratio and other gripes, but I just bought it and only then realised it runs on Steam(ing poo)... money down the drain, now I'll have to sell it back...
Dude, you like totally replied to my post about it requiring Steam (OK, technically I was asking for confirmation of it, but)
so, hmm.

Have no fear (heh), I just got to Auburn. That may be the fastest I've ever rolled through the parking garage- sometimes things just click and every last motherfucker in the room dies instantly.

Yeah, no shit. What the Hell problem could someone have w/Steam?
You need it to run to run the game?
Some games not only need Steam but install their own DRM on top of that as well?
It collects data about you without your consent and sends it to Valve?
Despite being digital delivery platform, prices on it are the same as retail ones, and sometimes higher because of 1:1 currency calculation?
And the games, once bought, cannot be resold?
Despite being a digital delivery platform, there are still regional release restrictions?
Valve has no legal obligation to keep their servers running, which means if they go out of business millions of people are very likely to get completely fucked?
