okay it is way too late but here's my initial thoughts
Did the first interval. First things first- muscle memory is going to be a bit of a bitch, but I'm already getting used to not using lean despite using it extensively in the original.
The 16:9 ratio I'm actually coming to appreciate. The HUD is ignorable, though I wish I could scale it back a bit.
Shadows are definitely nonexistant, which kinda bothers me a bit. I have an 8800GT, I should expect to see some nice soft shadows. Hell, even the Source engine has shadows now.
Probably my biggest gripe, visuals-wise, is that everything is blurry as fuck. The motion blur is a bit too much and even just looking at shit 5 feet away it's like I'm nearsighted.
Gameplaywise I can't really say too much yet. I notice your health doesn't start going down until your armour's gone- not sure how I feel about that. Related to that is the fact that you only carry 3 medkits at a time. I suppose that's a change from FEAR 1 where I rarely had less than 7 medkits at any given time and they practically buried you in the things.
They caption cutscenes- hooray! The demo didn't, and I was concerned. They don't caption AI barks, though- a shame, I loved seeing "No fucking way!" in the original.
Kept hitting F5. That'll take some getting used to. That's probably my biggest beef with the game.
Don't know what to think about the weapons. I hate it when sequels that take place at roughly the same time in roughly the same place use completely different weapons. Though it's nice to have a P90 knockoff.
Combatwise it's fairly standard. AI reacts at least somewhat intelligently.
PERMAFLASHLIGHT THANK YOU JESUS
12gb JESUS, took half an hour to fucking install
Steam handled it all very nicely, though. I'm used to Steam, however, so YMMV. Won't get into the Steam/anti-Steam argument.
Some of the scares seem to be a little unscripted- twice I had Alma pop up behind me, only disappearing when I turned around.
Aristide looks exactly like I imagined her. After FEAR 1 I wanted so badly to put a bullet in her dome. Bitch.
Haven't really seen any Ten Shitloads dialogue yet.
Verdict: minor niggles really, gonna keep playing and get my money's worth, I'll probably enjoy the hell out of it
okay going to bed

There's a couple of scenarios where you take physical damage before your armour's ran out; namely fire and supernatural damage, and I think electrical too.
I completed it on "Hard", and to be honest, it's not really that hard.
Saying that though, the ending's pretty cheap and reminiscent of all of Monolith's endings recently.
And as with the first game, I felt like it would have been more fun with more slo-mo time. As it stands, the regeneration rate doesn't scale, so while you get more to use as the game goes on, it takes increasingly longer for it to replenish. So in general, I found I'd use all of my slo-mo then hide until I had a usable amount back.
Overall, it was an okay game, but nothing spectacular, and as you pointed out dethtoll, the differences in weapons was rather jarring; in particular, the Penetrator being renamed to the Hammerhead with ammo changing to fluorescent rods.
Oh, and how come the automatic shotgun isn't, you know, automatic?

OK, managed to finally run it today, played for a few hours, just got outside at last. Man, this game has a serious case of consolitis. And I'm not talking about the lack of leaning even, it's the whole design - characters are overstylised and caricature-like (that gung-ho ATC security chief is the prime example), the text-infos scattered around in random places are generic and spell everything out to you (in the first game, the phone messages were sometimes rather cryptic, not to mention the non-chronological order), the power armors are typical examples of console-type bosses where you have to find a specific way to shut them down... Everything feels gamey.
I'm still enjoying it overall, but it makes me appreciate the first one more :erg:

The gung-ho security chief is neccessary for one of the best scenes in the game.
WTF is up with the background noise in the info screen though? That's just fucking annoying.

Please name one other ending, monolith or not,
in which you get raped by a corpse.

shooting Fettel in the head and rounding to the corner to see the Replica soldiers standing down and thinking it was finally all over. What follows is just tieing it all together and then setting it up for a sequel.
Speaking of Fettel, I've really come to love him as the antagonist. Alma could melt people but Fettel humanized it and made it more creepy.

Did anyone manage to find an Intel file for CortanaStokes during the Hospital level?
