it's 2009, you are no longer allowed to complain about the internet not being dialup friendly
Oh please just shut up. Broadband may be fast and cheap for you, but that is not the case for a very large number of people (regardless of how absurd you happen to think that is). Not everyone has it, or can afford it, or even gets very good performance out of it if they have paid for something better than dial-up. Steam
is complete and utter shit on dial-up, and not to put broadband as a minimum requirement for a game that uses it is just dishonest. For a single-player game, that information should be extremely prominent.

Steam is just one part of a greater entity commonly referred to as "the internet". If someone's little 28.8 that couldn't isn't enough to handle the internet in its current state, then maybe they should consider doing something else instead of waiting half an hour for a .gif to load.

Shouldn't you be complaining that FEAR 2 is 12GB? It takes a while for broadband to download that, the only requirement is an internet connection. Would a 7GB game like BioShock be much better for you?

12GB a pop is pretty huge, I agree, but that's why it comes on DVDs.

I'm neck-deep in a post-apocalypse wasteland and people have been frozen in time until a strong enough wind blows their ashes away. This is something I never quite understood about Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate- a fucking nuke went off, where's the devastation?
The (fake) hospital was actually pretty clever- the game gives you clues but it's not until you actually get out of the hospital when you're finally given confirmation. Had a bit of a Deus Ex vibe with that.
Heard the now-infamous pizza line, and all I can say is- lol Snake Fist. Don't take everything that guy says seriously- he seems a bit of a crackpot with a flair for the melodramatic hyperbole.
Aristide is still a bitch.
I wish I could walk- why can't I walk? Fortunately I move slower with ironsights, and since I typically play FEAR with ironsights up anyway it's not that big a deal.
You know, for all that talk about cover I don't find myself using it much- I'd much rather hide behind walls and columns than kick a table over. The lack of lean is not noticable.
While I do appreciate the readables- something I wish FEAR 1 had- I miss the phone messages and laptops.
Also I can't help but have mixed feelings about the absence of a real villian besides Alma, who as menacing as she is doesn't quite have the charisma of Paxton Fettel.
Something that really pissed me off: there's a part in the hospital where a doctor is trying to resusciate someone, an Armacham soldier comes up and caps him. You can't kill the soldier until after he's done the deed- bullets just bounce off him, and both people ignore you.
I'm having a lot of fun with this game, though.
[edit] I forgot to mention- there are indeed shadows, but unlike the previous game where everything cast a shadow, this only has certain things such as the player and certain light sources.

The Xbox version has lower quality assets so that they could squeeze it onto one DVD.

Also there's far less interactive objects than there were in FEAR1. Eg most of the chairs are bolted to the ground.
Seems that the AI may've been gimped. One gets the illusion that some of FEAR1's more aggressive AI routines (eg flanking and co-ordinating) has been replaced with the need to flip over tables and pot plants that provide inadequate cover anyway.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK

Didn't you have to use the weapon zoom feature in the original FEAR to walk, as well? Obviously it was different because it used magic eagle eye zoom zoom zoom ability rather than ironsights, but IIRC you couldn't change your movement speed in that either.

Try using it on a dial-up connection. We'll see what the hell problem you could have with it.
I have. Half-Life 2/CSS was installed via the 5-disc retail edition, and verified through an AOL connection at mom's house Circa Christmas 2004. Sure it took awhile, but I never had any problems.
