Sounds like you got the performance you paid for, then.
I can't get the game to lag no matter what I do to the settings, it just refuses to go below 40.

goddamn. what's YOUR system like?
Bjossi on 15/11/2007 at 16:34
AMD64 X2 4400+ (2.2 GHz)
2 GB DDR400
SB X-Fi Fatal1ty
512 MB BFG Geforce 7900 GTX
My system is 1.5 years old but can still survive in this harsh world. :p

ah. I bought this thing less than a year ago.
Pentium D 930 3 GHz
2GB DDR2-SDRAM PC2-4300 (266 MHz)
256MB eVGA GeForce 7600GT
Dirty_Brute on 16/11/2007 at 03:12
My system is -
AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+
2 gigs DDR1 3200 2.5-3-2.5
SB X-FI Extreme Music
512 mb X1900XTX
I can run Fear at 1600x1200 with max settings (but with soft shadows and AA off) with a framerate above 50. That's good enough for me. Even huge firefights don't bog my system down.

Yeah, AA is out of the question for me. AF... well, maybe x4.

I have an Athlon64 3200+ and an AGP x1950 pro 512 and I can run full for everything (which is nice, because Call of Duty 2 completely SUCKS IT DOWN for some reason).
Has anyone played PM yet? I'm replaying the original game now, after finally getting around to XP, and I'm really disappointed now with a lot of things that weren't taken advantage of in the first expansion. The removal of the telephone calls and not having the FEAR director communicating with you until 30 seconds before the end being two big ones. It also seems like the environments in XP are a lot less open than in the original game. They added SMASHABLE CRATES tho. :(
One thing about the PM demo that was disappointing was the voice acting for the new replicant soldiers. The new scoped MG seemed fairly cheesy too. Really, I thought the demo was fairly lame until the very very end (sort of how XP was fairly lame except for the few times you got to fight the invisible dudes, which were awesome) so I'm hoping those new shadow-creatures are featured prominently.

You really shouldn't expect PM to be the new ace of the franchise. It's not as good as the original, and I'd risk that it's not as good as XP - but it's a fun game nonetheless. It doesn't have much telephone calls, but they're at least related to the story. The new enemies are great (the basic new soldier is nothing special, but there are other things), the new weapons are useful (if you set the brightness right, you'll appreciate the scoped rifle), it has good horror/vision scenes, and good combat sequences.

Expecting an expansion with brand new gameplay elements is like expecting an Unreal Tournament that is nothing like the older ones; it just ain't gonna happen. When I buy an expansion, I expect the elements that made the original game, plus new content like enemies and weapons. Repeated level design doesn't bother me at all.
Anyway, I got the PM expansion today and I'm loving it to death. Though I fucking hate sidekicks, good thing they didn't stay with me for very long.

I don't want new content, I just want content that's half as good as the original game. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the companies who do Monolith expansion packs tend to drop the ball.
