finished in one sitting on hard. died only 5 times on first playthrough. much worse script, dialogue and voice acting than first additionaly to the gripes I had with the demo. not much changed in the actual game, the only enemy I really liked of the new ones was that "puppetmaster" thingy but it was only used 2 times I think and never in combination with other threats. as others noted there is no real baddie on the level of paxton fettel and the story itself only a small twist on the already existing one in FEAR1, the only progression and news about Alma was delivered in the last level. ATM i was already on "robot" mode, only trying to finish it so I'm done with it and it did not strike me as "bad" or "good" or even "controversial" as some reviews hinted at. I just didn't care.
decided to buy dead space at last to honor the last best average game by a major publisher shaming the once talented monolith and their "good enough to not suck completely" FEAR2.
Let's hope RAVEN doesn't go the way of Monolith (although Wolfenstein footage hints at a bad game) and turns up with something better.
The Singularity Trailer looks like it could be either brilliant or bland and boring (using quantum physics to ... blow up barrels....)

finished in one sitting
Why? Did I miss a doomsday announcement?

i didn't think it would be that short. the old game had 10 intervals (or more) and after a few hours of play I realized that I'm already almost at the end and just carried on with it. And I DID read all the Intel (not that you CAN miss it with the big blinking arrows and highlightning).
also, I was waiting for some enemies that motivate me to reload and replay a passage that constantly happened in FEAR1.

If I remember correctly FEAR is 13 intervals.
Finishing a game in one sitting is crazy from my point of view, my gaming sessions usually don't last more than an hour each. Add to that that I progress through games much slower than the average player.

if i have only 1 hour sparetime, i read a book.
a gaming session must have at least the span of a regular move, so 90-120min.
normally I play games in 3hour segments with 1-2 pauses inbetween. I don't like changing games inbetween so I don't loose "my groove" (silly words, I know but I don't know how else to explain it).
last weekend I restarted DeusEx and played 5hours straight until HongKong.
FEAR2 took me ~6 hours with extensive intel reading.
most of the times in games you can sense when a "big" fight is coming and gear up for it. FEAR2 had me rush through each encounter since there was never any penalty for running in without any planning and tactics, sure I had to retreat sometimes but a few times it happened that I realized after the fight that this was supposed to be a "mini" finale.

I have a lot more spare time than just 1 hour segments.

i did not say you have no more. I said that if I have 1 hour to game, I'd rather read a book and wait for a "bigger" timeslot for a new game. there are weeks where I don't play anything besides a few rounds of dystopia. so I would say the short 1hour timeslices go to multiplayer gaming (if I feel like it), the longer ones to single ones (or testing dys)

This is going to really offend you, mothra, but I thought FEAR 2 was on the whole a better game. Better atmosphere, better gameplay (well... usually), better scares (the fucking school, man.)
Writing wasn't as good, though, I'll agree on that.

I have about 4 missions to go, and I don't really see what people are complaining about in regards to the difficulty, AI, or level design, all of which seem comparable to or better than the original game.
