Fuck the Outer Shell. That shit is interminable. There's only so much Half-Life 1 I can take before I start to snooze.

There was a new patch released today and guess what, STILL NO NATIVE 5-BUTTON MOUSE SUPPORT. Monolith keep fucking up when it comes to the fundamental basics of releasing optimised PC games. This is especially slack since FEAR 1 had Mouse 4+5 support.
Quote:
Patch notes
- Added 'Toy Soldier' multiplayer maps
- Fixed some AI path finding errors
- Fixed the way the Leaderboard counted wins/losses for Blitz games
- Team is notified when an EPA comes online
Oh yay, new maps for a multiplayer component that no one plays.

How is 5-button mouse support a "fundamental basic"?

They've been around for practically the entire decade and are very common. I can't think of many games released since 2004 that didn't support them... except for sloppy console ports like this one.

Dead Space doesn't have it either. I wanted to play with 360 controller in one hand, mouse in the other (that way I can sit back from the laptop), but NO since I can't map squashing to one of the the thumb buttons.

That doesn't answer my question.

I can't really answer your question since I got a 3-button mouse, but a programming rookie can write up the code for those extra mouse buttons in a matter of minutes and is a very convenient feature for those who got mice with 4+ buttons. So why exactly are Monolith so fucking stubborn to implement this? It certainly wasn't a problem in FEAR.

There are 3rd party work-arounds, such as (
http://www.projectorigincommunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8349) X-Mouse. Keyboard->mouse mapping functionality is also built into the drivers for newer model Razer and Logitech mice.

Why do you persist in being an apologist for this lazy developer?
No dedicated server files, no anti-cheat solution, no SDK, only supporting a 16:9 aspect ratio... they're console developers now and whilst the PC port is well optimised, the implementation was lazy with minimal effort applied.

My shitty $15 GE 5-button mouse came w/proprietary software for button mapping. I can map any key I wish to the extra buttons. Yeah, it takes a minute or two, but I don't find it a big deal. There are a ton of games on my shelf that don't natively support it.

You're being a whiney douchebag and you're
still not answering my fucking question. Which is: how is 5-button mouse support a "fundamental basic?"
