I own this game on the PC. I'm a huge fan of the original, bought it day one.
It's fun if you PLAY it and stop COMPLAINING.

Ah Dethtoll, here's a slack arse developer apologist buddy for you. High five, brah!
Volition, I'll take your opinion seriously when you have a fucking legitimate argument.

So what's the opinion on FEAR 2 anyway? I'm just curious since I've heard some very mixed reviews about it. Is it worth playing at all? I ask because I'm really having a blast with the first FEAR game.

Decent, solid shooter. Not as good as the first. Definitely not worth paying full price for by a long shot though, considering the overall SP length (6-10 hours) and the dead on arrival MP scene.

first FEAR, solid fun ....second FEAR, boring and (at least imo) the scale tipped over into "annoying" territory, too many steps backwards in story and gameplay departement. I'm sure others have enjoyed it more, you won't get a definitive answer here I "fear".

As a big fan of the first FEAR I was very disappointed by the sequel, though it is a solid shooter and I played all the way through (which is a given considering I paid full price for it).

It's FEAR 1 with a better engine, no leaning (a throwback to the old school PC gaming days of NOLF and AVP2 m i rite), a weird glow on the enemies while using slo-mo, and most of the filler taken out.
I can't comment on the multiplayer as I haven't tried it, but I would expect it to be at least somewhat populated what with the recent DLC coming out and whatnot. Whenever I get around to reinstalling it and replaying the SP on the upgraded hard difficulty, I'd like to at least play a few rounds on the Toy Soldiers maps.

Update: You can't, because there are no ini files, because it's a
console game! It's not even funny anymore. I laugh regularly at gamers who fuck themselves over by buying blindly and then encountering anal-invasive DRM for example, but I actually pity all the sad bastards who bought the game for the PC. There are very few games I actually regret torrenting, and I not only regret torrenting FEAR 2, I regret torrenting 4GB smaller rip and
without even playing it first. If I would have
bought this piece of shit, I'd probably travel to Kirkland and threw a PC(complete with 4:3 CRT) through Monolith's window.
You torrented it, you don't get to complain.

What the fuck, dude? Seriously, stop with this "developer apologist" bullshit, you sound like the kids at NMA who think that liking Fallout 3 somehow makes you a shill for Bethesda. Shut the fuck up already. You don't even have a worthwhile argument, all you can do is spout the same "developer apologist" nonsense over and over. FEAR 2 got some things wrong (lack of lean, lack of walk, lack of quicksave, too much motion blur) and yet on the other hand got some other things completely right. Is
actually enjoying a game on its own merits such a fucking crime?
Goddamn.

I just dont' think that because Fear 2 wasn't Fear 1, that its crap.
fear 2 was fun, and its a great game. The story was solid and I really enjoyed myself. Nitpicking over simple things that make it more "consoley" just seems like a waste of breath to me. Or at least if its to the point where you despise the game.
It's FEAR! it was action packed, it was Awesome! the school was creepy as hell!
you put those on the pros side and no leaning/quicksave on the cons side and which one wins you over?
I'd understand mild annoyance.. I just don't understand the extreme angst.

FEAR wins me over due to its graphics alone. Dead-on sharp, proper shadowing, better art (fx. I can easily tell heavies from replicas in FEAR, much harder in FEAR 2) and lighting isn't milky/desaturated.
I also like FEAR's more indoor nature. There is just something about massive, seemingly lifeless corporate headquarters that I find very atmospheric and fun to explore while encountering occasional replica groups on the way. And if I wasn't inside Armacham HQ I was inside some other place, like a building in Auburn or the wastewater treatment plant. I'm a sucker for the indoors. ;)
