Okay; this thread may or may not have been posted before. I don't know as I'm new to the forums. Still a long time thief fan though, and after female guards (Not including pagans) disappeared in TDS, I began to think "How will the fans react to this?" "Will anyone even notice or care?"
So what are your opinions on female guards? Personally, I thought they were a great idea; they really gave the game variety. Also I liked their "In-your-face" attitude; it fortified their desire to prove that they were just as good as any man- or thief, for that matter! But that's just what I think, so what are your ideas? Please tell me and put your view on the poll.
Thanks!

Well, the first time I encountered female guards was in Thief 2, and when I did, my reaction was as follows:
OH MY GOD! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!?!
Seriously, just look at the shoulders in T2, they look like the person was trying incredibly hard to shrug and became stuck that way.
It doesn't matter to me what sex the guards are. They're still getting a blackjack over the head.
Though female guards were a good idea. I mean, without them, the City Watch would be filled with nothing more then tons sweaty men.
Just like the Hammerites.
... :weird:

I'm not sure I was so enthusiastic when I first encountered them (I mean, I'm not sure I really had any strong opinion either way), but by this point I've grown so used to them they are just a part of the game and it'd be strange if they were missing ... particularly the female mechanists, which I'd expect for an over-zealous, militaristic religious group (that is, unlike a guard, you become one based on what you believe, not e.g. your "qualifications" to bash things).

Personally, I never knew Thief without female guards, (I started with T2) so I never thought about it. Don't know why I'm bothering posting this, but what my nephew said when he first encountered them while playing T2 somehow seems appropriate for this thread. It was something along the lines of: "I don't get why games use female enemies. There's only two women a guy can ever truly fear -- his mother and his girlfriend."

I hope your nephew was kidding. Otherwise he doesn't sound terribly bright.
The addition of female guards and black men to the Thief universe in TMA did seem like a bit of a calculated attempt to enhance the game's "diversity", but in the end it did nicely enhance Thief's alternate-history vibe.
Didn't TDS revert to an all-white-male guard force?

I thought they were fantastic. Particuarly 'I'm going to bash you up but good!'. Like ZB said, in retrospect it was probably a bit intended to be a right-on statement of some kind, but I didn't really think twice about it - just seemed completely natural. Mainly cos the female characters weren't wearing steel boob-tubes and special combat hotpants (Epic: TAKE NOTE).

The female Mechanists have good measures, they seem to be well fed and have this hawt dominatrix attitude. All women in TDS have too modern haircuts and look way too anorectic.
