Nice link, Vimes. I dig warrior women, and have been looking for info like this. Still, it seems the number of women were vastly lower than men, supporting my assumption that few women turned to the fighting arts willingly. From the link it seems that the ones who actually did fight were either forced by circumstance, or were nobles leading armies.

I've been a re-enactor for about seven years and fought everything from Vikings to Lancastrians. Women who fought had too, I'ts not the kind of thing you would have voluntered for lightly. Even now women who fight tend to do it for fun but you still get the bastards on the battlefield who don't agree with women fighting and will hit you a bit harder as a warning that its not your place to be. It takes a strong woman to achieve her place and I have been through 37 battles. I am retired now at the age of 34 and have taken up thieving as a hobby.:ebil:
