Most of the major foreign films get some kind of release here, whether that's at a festival or a limited theatrical run. For example, last year I managed to catch Lore, The Hunt, Armour, I Wish, In Darkness, Barbara and Monsieur Lazhar. A good range of films and I didn't come close to seeing all that was available. For anything I miss, I'm lucky in that the city I live in has an excellent DVD rental place run by a true film scholar (with a Doctorate and everything).

ArmourA foreign language film about medieval battle protection?

Maybe it's a psychological exploration of PTSD brought on by the use of chain mail bikinis and breast plates in the early 1500s.

The worst part is that's not the first time I've made that mistake. :o

I'm looking forward to Oz myself, hopefully seeing it with friends this weekend. I'm kind of a sucker for reimginings/alternate takes on classical stories especially if they take on a darker twist (American McGee Alice game, Wicked musical etc).
I get where you're coming from but both this and the new Hansel and Gretel don't interest me at all.
I saw Side Effects the other day. It starts out really well, has good performances, gets interesting and then meh. 3/5. Solidly average.

Why foreign language? In the UK, we spell it that way.

Well I saw Oz yesterday and it was much less twisty/dark than the trailer made it out to be; I really hoped for some (new) Charlie and Chocolate Factory's level of sublime dark undertones. Definitely felt a bit more like a kids movie and a standard hero's journey and transformation, particularly in the first hour that kinda dragged (the second hour was much better, if tad predictable).
Also felt like it did many of those stagy, almost amateurish things as tribute to the original. But I wish they did more "clever" tie-ins and explanations of the original story's lore, I was again hoping for something to the level of the amazing Wicked, which did a much better job of re-imagining the story and bringing numerous "a-ha!" moments. The characters were also pretty one dimensional, a real pity and lost opportunity especially with Theodora (Mila Kunis). Lots of interesting stuff that could have been done with her...
Well, it's a Disney movie, so I guess I should have expected all this; somehow trailer made me think it would be more of a dark Charlie&Chocolate factory meets Wicked.

I watched it yesterday also. Whilst it's not on the same level of awesomeness as the original I quite liked it. Just kept my expectations low. They didn't appear to create any plot holes that I could think of.
