God dammit Internet. This is what you want? More Advent Children?
I love / loved Final Fantast VII. It's a unique game and hell, invented it's own [foo]punk genre: mako punk.
Spiky hair, grafted arm guns, Kowloon walled city slums, evil corporations sucking the planet dry and irradiating everyone. Raw plutonium found in nuclear reactors that let you cast magic? This shit is so Cyberpunk 2020. It's Shadow Run. It's Ghost in the Shell.
It's not 00s animu garbage.
Do you remember how FF7 starts? X starts with blitzball. VIII started with waking up in the school nurses' office because you got a boo-boo.
FF7 starts by slicing up a few machine gun toting soldiers with a giant fuck-off sword in a city so polluted by its monopolistic corporatocracy it's choked in permanent night. You don't even see the sun until you've finished a fifth of the game. By then you've witnessed a government prepared to collapse an entire sector of the city and sacrifice thousands to take out a few trouble makers. Act I ends with a suicide mission on corporate hq only to discover a trail of blood and corpses strewn everywhere.
The monsters all over the planet? Unchecked genetic experimentation. Oh wait, add unchecked human genetic experimentation to the list because the main character got fucked up too. The hilarious thing is the evil corporation only plays secondary antagonist to the alien Lovecraftian entity they unleashed onto the world when they tried to gene splice super soldiers.
Now take all that in. Pretend it's your job to make a trailer for this story. How are you going to capture a dystopian future where technology is literally maiming our bodies and killing the planet to power shanty towns bathed in an electric neon glow? How to convey a world owned by a single fascist mega corporation that uses harvested human souls to power everything from light bulbs to cars, mechs, and air ships. Only your fucked up group of punks stands between them and the apocalypse.
I know. Let's show some kids playing in the park on a sunny day.

I kinda liked the trailer, but I'm worried that they're gonna try to tie the story in with Crisis Core, Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus - all of which had some horrible stories and characters. Not that FF7 was like great literaturę, but at least it was engaging and not embarassingly stupid most of the time. Unfortunately that one dude who wrote scenarios for Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and was responsible for most of the better parts of FF7's story, is long gone from Squeenix, and Nojima, who wrote FF8, 10 and the FF7 sequels by himself, is also writing the scenario for the remake, and he's a terrible hack IMO :( .

I'm certainly interested to see what SE will do after so much anticipation. Many gamers in the late nineties were hugely impacted by FF7. I don't expect the same, but I am happy the company is willing to revisit a beloved entry in their franchise.

Me neither. I'm actually hoping for it to be different, but also being as good as FF7 was in 1997. And it's great that Square-Enix is not going to abandon consoles and PCs for cell phones :cheeky:

I just wish they would get off their collective asses & remake Final Fantasy VI. Stop beating around the bush SquareEnix! This is the only Final Fantasy game I actually want to see upgraded. Don't get me wrong, I like FFVII, but I would pay a Triple A title price for this one. Hell... I'd pre-order a $200 collector's edition of FFVI just to get this.

They already have, Nedan. Android and iOS devices got an "enhanced" sprite based remake. I think that's about all we're gonna get.

A--holes. Seriously. My favorite Final Fantasy by far... out classes FF7 in every way IMHO.
