Lotus Flowers seems to be the new Tribals, everyone is doing them i've heard.. My brother was going to do one like 2 weeks ago, but the tattooer advised against it hehe (he's a friend of my brother).

Actually yes... I love the symbolism of the lotus but have never really liked the traditional expressions of it. I went for more of a Georgia O'Keefe style on purpose.
Obviously I disagree about the shading... I love shaded tattoos. But hey, tattoos are a personal thing, so if you don't like it, ya don't gotta get it. Personally, I love it more and more each day.
My next one was going to be a koi, but I've decided against it. I like the contrast of black/white, yen/yang, etc., so getting another one right now would be too symmetrical in a sense. So, waiting again to figure it out... may take another 12 years.
