That's an odd thing to complain about on a forum devoted to videogames.
At least with a videogame, you get to do something. A tattoo just sits there.
(Fedoras are fucking cool. I get to look...ironic.)

I personally detest tattoos. That being said, if you sheep want to deface your bodies, then go right ahead. However, when you feel the need to bump a four year old thread to express pride about your "achievement", then you need to realistically expect some derision. If you want a better reception, then post in a forum for tattoo enthusiasts.
Guess what, Vivian? I'm not actually a jealous pussy. I simply have the capacity for free thought. Describing your tattoos as "fucking wicked" and calling someone a "dicklord" isn't exactly the way to present yourself as a vast intellectual. You actually come across as a bit of an ass. Why are you getting so bent out of shape about someone else's opinion, anyway? Did someone strike a nerve?

Speaking of presenting one's self as a bit of an ass...

Gozioso:
A) Kind of a dick-move on my part, but fuck it, it's got to be useful for something: (
http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v497/n7447/full/nature12059.html) here is my lead author paper in goddamn Nature, what towering achievements in FREEEE THOOOUUGHT have you managed to scrape out.
B) What Dethtoll said. It's the sheep comment. I don't think anyone is actually capable of calling people they disagree with 'sheep' and not sounding like a twerp.
C) I'm still right about tattoos.

I don't think it's really 'anti-tattoo'. My grandfather had a bunch of numbers tattooed on him after the war, and that seemed fine. It's more of an 'anti-why-would-you-pay-for-this-when-it-serves-no-real-purpose-beyond-self-indulgence' sort of thing.
"Oh, it
means something to
me." Sure it does, and no one cares. There are plenty of things that mean something to me, but I don't feel the need to put those things on display, or involve others in my shit. IT'S MY SHIT, DAMMIT! IT'S FOR ME!!!
(I swear to fucking God, this generation goes on and on about not having any money, then spend it on pointless things to decorate themselves, like they're a walking billboard. Come on giant asteroid! Hit here!)
All people do is put stuff on display to show others and how is someone having a tattoo involving other people at it? I mean, should everything be covered up that you don't want to see? Why is seeing a tattoo undesirable in the first place?
I find it odd that the body is still under such a strict set of norms even though humans are shaping their bodies in multitude of ways. The fact that a tattoo "tarnishes" a body is an odd thought, as if body could be tarnished in some way to begin with.
I actually had a long thought about should I have tree that way or the other - the other would have shown the tree right way to me, but I decided for the more traditional approach for it to show right way when somebody's looking at me. Coming from that, of course there's self-indulgence involved in doing something like this, but is it bad? I find my tattoo nice to look at ( a piece of art), an object of identity-building (I guess somebody could argue that this is silly) and a bank of sorts for memories and thoughts. A tattoo will hold lots of memories in it and me taking it in the current phase of my life will hopefully remain in it for me to remember later. I'm also positively attuned to the fact that the tattoo will age as well - it's a reminder of time, something that grounds you.
Lastly though, I think tattoos are, even with their symbolism and intentions, quite mundane and the reaction they still garner is just outlandish. It's a picture on someone, what the hell is the fuss about :D
(What generation are you referring to? All kinds of people get tattoos. I can't verify right now, but I've seen the figure of 40% from the age-group 25-40 have a tattoo in the US. It's silly to say tattoos are somehow more useless than all the other useless things people who shouldnt be spending money are spending it on.)

I'm not sure if my particular tattoo has garnered derision. It's more about a spark for a fairly interesting conversation. Well at least until you came and tattooed HERPDERP on this whole convo. Personally though, I wouldn't call people, who voluntarily marginalize themselves for such a trivial thing as a tattoo, sheep. Stupid you could make a point for, but you're still fuckloads more idiotic.

I've got tattoos (3 of them, one is on my head, behind an ear) and in general I love tattoos - I love how they look. I find tattooed women incredibly sexy and I generally enjoy seeing a tattoo I've not seen before - art on people - I'm a fan.
However, I have a personal dislike of fashion tattoos. By which I mean tattoos which people have because having tattoos is fashionable. That's not to say there's anything wrong with that, I just find it jars with me. For example I know someone who got around 20 sailor tattoos over the course of about 2 years simply because she started going out with someone who was into that. Likewise, I see many teenagers with large, vivid tattoos across their throat, very much tied to a sub-genre of music which they're obviously pretty into. Whatever, it's not my problem, but my recurring thought is that unless a tattoo is somehow personal, or tapping into an aesthetic loved by the wearer, then it is kind of like putting on a pair of flares you can never remove. Those guys look edgy as fuck now and the commitment to get a permanent wreath of roses on the throat must seem very hardcore to their peers etc... but that's it. It's a transient cultural tattoo, not a personal one, not one which appeals to their own aesthetic, just tool for social inclusion. I'm probably wrong, or don't understand, but these are the thoughts which go through my mind.

Honestly, does no one here remember my ass tattoo? Really?
See, that's the problem with this generation--none of you has a memory span or pays attention. ... or are just as gullible as they come. Tee hee.
