I finaly have a machine capable of playing Thief 3. Hardware specs - 1 GB of Ram, Celeron 2Ghz CPU, PCI Intel Express onboard video chipset. Yeah, that onboard chipset makes it choppy sometimes, but it's indeed playable.
So.. the game is awesome and the graphics is great. There are some things I didn't like, for example these awful lockpicks and the loading zones (blyakh). I successfully passed the demo mission, the castle mission and the city mission, going to proceed with the hammerite mission. Overall, a nice game.

I'm luke warm towards the game myself.

You might want to try out New Horizon's Minimalist Project:
(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95336&highlight=minimalist+age) Minimalist Project 1.4.1 Revised: May 20th, 2005.
It does away with the visual clues for the lockpicking, which makes it a little harder and much more fun (in my opinion), since you then have to listen closely to the sounds produced. It also does away with other things, such as 3rd person view.

I, for one, like the locks in T3 better than previous Thief games since it makes it more of a challenge. As per the Minimalist Project, only having sounds is not a good thing for deaf people. I have a deaf friend that loves Thief. His major complaint is dialogs. He said the AI are impossible to lip read and they don't sign worth a damn.

What waving a sword isn't clear enough of a meaning for him? :p ;)

Minimalist project does not limit lockpicking to 'only sounds'. It simply removes the redundant 'lockpicking hud' that truly wasn't needed. The visual clues are already displayed by the players hands on screen while your picking.

Sooner or later you'll learn, TDS sucks like an Electrolux.

*sigh* I miss playing ThiefIII. I used to play it at a friend's house before he moved. Now I can't even find it >.< I really like it, like all of them actually.

Sound is a very important part of Thief's gameplay, so if you are deaf, Thief is not the best of choices anyway. Also, no one forces your friend to install the Minimalist Project. I merely suggested it, because Bulgarian_Taffer didn't like the lockpicking and I thought that he might like it better without the "lockpicking HUD".

Sorry, that was what I meant. I would still say, though, that you have to rely more on sounds with the HUD removed, which is what made it more fun (for me).

All kidding aside, I am partially deaf in my left ear. Half my hearing is gone on that side. When I play thief, I usually wear headphones. Its a big help, cannot play without my headphones. I have played without them before, I much prefer to wear the headphones anyway.
Depending on the severity of your friends deafness, if headphones would help, try it.
