But hardly anyone can object that Thief2 seems now like a big add-on for original Thief ;)
I felt the designers tried to surpass Thief1 by making Thief2 a potpourri. Space Age (not Metal Age) looking objects (the robots, scouting orb, even the flare looked like that), electricity, a large panel of different potions (some of them quite unrealistic), an overly Victorian settings. I also believe that the stroryline suffered because of that. The missions are deep, but they are not strung very well together. I think I read somewhere that the missions were designed first and then a story was fitted on them. If it is true it showed through for me. I still did not finish it, because it just did not keep my interest up. On the other hand T1 and T3 did. For me atmosphere, such as storyline and (the feeling of) reality matters more. I know it is a fantasy game, but IMO the good ones move on the borderline between fantasy and reality. For me T2 fell off that borderline.

I agree its a great game.
The Witcher is heavily influenced by this they even have smaller loader zones than TDS: both in terms of time spent in them and size.
That is because The Witcher uses the game engine of Neverwinter Nights

So I guess no one knows how TDS was originally planned. :p

It always seemed that way. Most reviews at the time mentioned it.

Strange how diverse opinion can be, and no one ever realizes what's right for them isn't always right for another. My opinion, for example, is that there's not a taffin' thing wrong with TMA being an extension of TDP/Gold. It's supposed to be a trilogy. It makes sense--to me--that TMA is more of the same. It should be. Same main character, some of the same secondary characters, same City, same virtual universe, and an extension of themes and plots and subplots. One over-arching story, three parts.
You have the people who wish for more Thief, but they don't want more of the same? And then you have the many threads where people argue strongly over the differences between the first two games. I personally don't buy that TMA is more of the same--in a boring sense--when the differences are enough to bring out the sneering fanboys, or constant teasing.
Fact: the rewards of the first two games have thus far been boundless.
@Dussander: Later, later.... :D
@Beleg Cúthalion: Well, inform our new members, then. Heh heh. Don't leave it hanging. Sit 'em down, pour 'em some Biddleybong, and pass on Thief's oral history to the next generation of taffers. Do it for posterity!
