Finally time for T2X?

I'm thinking that it's finally time for me to play T2X; I briefly started it years ago, but for some reason I didn't even finish the first level. It's time, though...

Which brings me to my questions: I haven't played Thief or Thief 2 in a while, so I'm not sure what the latest is with respect to patches, fan mods and the like. What's the best way to get the most out of T2X, beyond installing the main game, TX2 and getting my thief on? (I've heard whispers in the dark, of texture mods and New Dark...)

All you really need is (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106) Tafferpatcher for Thief 2 and (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134733) TFix for Thief. Both have the necessary bits and pieces to run fan missions. If you want as close to the original experience as possible, don't install any mods. I only use the EP so I can't comment on what the mods below are like.

Thanks, that's useful already. I can't remember if I've got the game on GOG or Steam, but it should be easy enough to install Tafferpatcher with either, right?

My memory's a little hazy but I think one or other of those installs to Program Files and would need to be moved/copied elsewhere. I'll see what I can find.
