Firaxis + XCOM, that is all. - by N'Al

Possibly. I heard 2K Marin were having problems in the development of their shooter, which I highly doubt were all related to customer reaction only.
Also, remember 2K are the producer that declared strategy games (
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/07/13/2k-strategy-games-not-contemporary/) 'not contemporary' not six months ago. That's a pretty radical shift to go from that to placing your TBS before your FPS in the franchise.

Before anyone bashes the system in the new XCOM too hard, keep in mind that a similar turn-based system worked very well in Valkyrie Chronicles. I can see it carrying over to XCOM's style of gameplay very well.
Also wanted to comment on this:
XCOM with gameplay similar to Valkyria Chronicles?
Fuck yeah!
Even Julian Gollop himself said he was stunned at how similar Valkyria Chronicles was to his idea for the game Dreamland Chronicles.

Not neccessarily; it could be very well that the only purpose of the strategy xcom is nothing more but to generate hype and attention for their upcoming FPS. Welcome to the entertainment industry.
Still, the game looks interesting, and I never even played the originals (in before I get called a heathen).

That might be the case if Xcom: Enemy Unknown was going to be a low key downloadable only game, but it isn't. Low budget digital distribution only games do not receive cover stories in Game Informer as part of their marketing strategies, that's strictly AAA retail stuff.

Eitherway, it is promoting the XCom brand.

...and it still isn't a low rent, throwaway project that's glorified marketing for 2K Canberra's FPS by any means.

I came across this very nice gameplay video of X-Com: Enemy unknown today. It's over an hour long and features two missions played with commentary.
This game is going to be grrrreat. :D
