Hi! Has anyone made or tried to make a fire sword? I have, and all that I can get to work is how much damage the sword does. I just made it twice as much as the normal sword garrett carries. But has anyone got it to be just like a fire arrow, only you can't shoot it? For example: When you have a fire arrow in your inventory, and you pull the bow back, you notice smoke coming of the arrow tip. That's what I want to do to a sword. If anyone wants to find the same tutorial I did, just look for it under "thief-thecircle.com/dromed and look for a link about "magic sword" or something. It is probably under the "objects" section. -Please reply if you know about anything I'm talking about. :D

I've never been successful at attaching particles to a weapon in any way which looks decent. Other folks here can probably tell you a way, though.
One thing you can do is make the sword glow red when it's drawn, which certainly is an improvement over a plain sword. Just give it a Renderer > Dynamic Light property and set it to 40-60 or so (or higher if you want it brighter). Then, add Renderer > Light Color and set Hue to 0.0 and Saturation to 1.0 (red is in the rollover range, so try 0.96-0.99 or 0.01-0.03 on hue until you get the hue you like... orange is roughly 0.03-0.10).

Oh, I've done similar things to all the weapons: Fire swords, water bjacks, bashy-arrows, cheese arrows, you name it. Although I've never tried to attach different particles though.

:weird: What are they for? To lure mouses to traps?
About the Particle attachment to the sword: I don't think that is possible. I was never able to get particles to attach to the sword itself. The particle effects always appeared to be attached to Garrett.

I opened up a water arrow and a block of cheese in 3DS, and put the two together. It's kinda pointless, but still funny as hell! It makes this low pitched thud noise whenever it hits something. :cheeky:

If you open the sword model in 3d and add a vhot to it, then in the hiearchy add a particle attach to that VHOT it might work. I have a tut at LPG...

Schwaa2, where's that tut your talking about? Also, what do you mean open it in "3d"? Are you saying I need to get a 3d object maker program and edit it there? PLus, what is a VHOT? I haven't really learned everything, and even if I have heard of a VHOT, I don't remember what they do.
-Yandros, thanks for the idea. I'm going to go test it out! Thanks!:thumb:

Hey Yandros, I just checked it out, and I don't have "Dynamic Light" under renderer.
Is that for DromEd 2? Because if it is, I can't do that because I am unable to play thief2.(Don't ask why.....)
Yandros on 7/12/2003 at 21:14
Doh! Yes, Dynamic Light is D2 only... sorry, didn't realize you were still using D1.
Draeknar on 7/12/2003 at 21:44
Jeez, Sneaksie, you can't play Thief2 but don't ask why? You've said that a couple of times now, what is it, against your religion, Hammers and such? Yeah, I know, don't ask why... but it's a pretty good game, damn shame you're missing it!
