Hey Schwaa2..... How do I open the sword in anim8or? Do I need to extract it somehow are something?? Plus, how would I add a vhot to it?

Open up mesh.crf with winzip (or something that can open .zip files).
Then find object an object armsw2.e (which apparently is not in in the mesh folder and does not exist in the Thief 1 resources :(). I can send you the T2 file if you want. You would convert the .e file to .3ds with ShadowSpawns eto3ds tool.
For VHOTs see the tutorials in Low Poly Guild. They tell you what the VHOT is and what you can do with it (basically it is just a small cube like the joint boxes).

Sneaksie, Do what Dark Arrow said, then import the .3ds file into Anim8or.
Tyhen EXPORT a 3ds file and use the conversion tools to get an .e file, then a .bin file (use the .bin in Thief) Adding a cube (VHOT) and naming it is quite easy.
Not sure if the player can carry a flaming sword, since it is part of the sword arm (mesh), but maybe you can just attach the particles thru mesh attach using the wrist joint and offseting the particles to the correct position.

 So your saying that I don't have the file armsw2.e in the mesh.crf? So would I have to find the file in the thief 2 mesh.crf? (I can do that, but thanks for suggesting to give it to me. I have thief 2 but I can't play it......:( )
Ok, so if I understand correctly, I would do these steps:
1.) get the armsw2.e file
2.) convert to .3ds format using eto3ds
3.)Open Anim8or and import the .3ds file (This would be under the file menu, correct?)
4.)Then follow a tut from LPG about VHOT's and put one on the file
5.)Then, when done: export the file(where? in my thief folder, or wherever?)
6.)Using the conversion tools, create a .e file AND a .bin file (Or do you mean convert the .e file made into a bin???)
7.)Then put these files in a folder. (Where??)
8.) Run dromed and insert the custom file (???? From here, what would I do to make the sword a fire sword??)
PLease tell me if this is correct.
(Hey, has anyone besides me had the problem where you submit a reply and then a vBulletin message says that you are not logged in? -Then, after you log in, it says no thread specified?? It has happened to me more than once, and I have had to put in the subject for it to work.....)

I'm currently in school, but I'll help you out when I get home.
-"3.)Open Anim8or and import the .3ds file (This would be under the file menu, correct?)"-
No, it is under Object menu.
[EDIT]Read ShadowSpawns reply after my post!!!
How to make a VHOT:
Import an object to Anim8or ([Menu]Object>Import). Choose Object/Edit from the left menu (mouse pointer icon). Click on the add cube button and create a cube. Move it to the right spot, where ever that is in your model. Double click on the new cube and edit the size to match the joint boxes and other Vhots (I don't think that size matters, so a size of X&Y=0.1 and Z=1.5 should be enough for a VHOT).
Once you are done go to [Menu]Build>Convert to Mesh to convert the cube to a mesh. Double click on the object and change the name to @h01xxx (where xxx is the name of the main object, the one where the Vhot is connected to). I'm not sure if it matters what material the VHot has, but to be safe copy the material from another models VHOT. [Menu]Options>Materials. Select one of the materials from another model that has a VHOT (VHOT material is always a single color, no textures used in the VHOT) and copy it to your model. You could also copy the whole VHOT from another model .
Export the file to a .3ds file. Since meshbld doesn't support Vhots ,I'm going to explain how to do it when you have an object:
Create a folder somewhere (a place you can easily get to, since we will soon be using Ms-Dos to get there). Place meshbld.exe, Bsp.exe and n3ds2e.exe to there. This will be the folder where you place your objects and AI's (.3ds files). Place your .3ds file there.
Open Start>Programs>Ms-Dos window. I'm not sure what it is called in english. Mine says Ms-Dos-kehote. In the ms-dos window, move to the folder you created. Once you are in the folder, type n3ds2e your3dsfilename.3ds and then type bsp your3dsfilename.e. There should now be a .bin file (and an e.file) in your folder. Move the .bin file to Thief/Obj folder.
In dromed you would use Shape>Model Name property and place your object name here (without the. bin extension).
[/Edit]

Guys, you missed the point a little while back...
Meshbld doesn't understand VHOTs. It'll leave the cube floating there. Which is not what you want.
Dark Arrow on 12/12/2003 at 20:30
Forgot about that...:p
Anyway, I finished what I started. My post should offer some help if you ever want to make a VHOT to an object. You can't add a Vhot to an arm.
sNeaksieGarrett on 12/12/2003 at 23:31
Okay, so what your saying is, is that a flaming sword is not possible? I can't put particles on it? (Plus, I don't think I have meshbld.... What's that?)
If this is true (That sucks:( ), then could I still do it, but only do it on an object garrett isn't going to pick up? (For example, like put glowing particles on cheese or something?)
Shadowspawn on 13/12/2003 at 03:43
Assuming you can add the ParticleLink at all (which I think is difficult), why can't you add it to a joint? The link data allows you to connect the effect to a VHOT, or a joint, or a submodel (which seems to be actually a face number or something, look at a WillOWisp to see what I mean).
For a sword arm, I think you'd connect it to the Right finger ot Right wrist?
sNeaksieGarrett on 13/12/2003 at 04:31
I dunno. I'm clueless..... I'm just asking people what to do Shadowspawn.
I dunno really what you mean. Also, where's WillOWisp???
-Are you saying that I could add particles through a particleattacthment link, and then say under the link data ID that the place it is at is right finger/right wrist????
