That basement valve is a vestige of something Randy Smith accidentally left in. It doesn't do anything but rotate and trigger the sound effects.

I always wondered about that one.

Yeah, when I first got DromEd up and running, I tried to go find out what I thought I had missed somewhere with that, going to the valve and then clipping straight up through the ceiling. I never found it, and it didn't help that I didn't know about the unstripped missions to look at links and properties for the valve, but then I read Randy's post about it--in the Bank Easter Egg thread, I believe. Mystery solved!

Glad you finally made it. You said you could not pass the guards to the vault, not that it would not open. So I answered the wrong question. Sorry about that!

That was my initial problem. :D
I haven't played a stealth game before so it's challenging but I do like the game.

Alright taffers, have another question...
I should just change the name of this thread to "help for clueless newbie."
Anyway, my question is about vine and rope arrows. I have trouble getting them to "stick." Should I aim for the very edge of a ledge? Just above it, below it? Thanks for any advice.
Stingm on 23/9/2012 at 21:45
Rope arrows should stick into any wood surfaces. Although I do know of a couple that they don't for some reason. Vine arrows stick in wood and metal grates. I usually try to aim for the center of the grate or area I want to climb...but sometimes it is tricky to get it just right to mantle up. I hope this helps! The other experts can probably get more specific!:thumb::):cheeky:

Unfortunately, not all wood-looking surfaces are attachable. There are even rare instances of metal behaving as wood, but thankfully they aren't critical. If I could see what surfaces you were trying to fire at I could tell you immediately what's going wrong. Since you likely have an overabundance of broadhead arrows, you could use them to test wood surfaces, after a quicksave, just in case AIs become alerted to your experiments. Don't try to attach to wooden objects like picture frames, or crates--though the first version of TMA released allowed it!--nor to 2D-looking railings, the outsides of Tudor buildings, undersides of the eaves of rooftops with ceramic roofing tiles. But most wood surfaces, like paneling or layered planks and beams, should work. I am curious to know if you may have a bug, too, but we can't see. Have you used filesharing sites before, to upload images or files?

I'm on the rooftops in Life of the Party quest, and I'm trying to get to an open window in a stone building. Maybe I'm just not supposed to be able to get up there. But in general I find I don't have good luck attaching rope or vine arrows. Seems, er, hit or miss- no pun intended.

Perfect! Indeed, you are supposed to place a vine arrow up there.

Get as close as you can so your target is larger, when you can, and when the angle is not important, such as when you need to mantle up onto a surface from the vine arrow, and need to stick the arrow in at an angle more perpendicular to the vertical target surface.
We should be narrowing it down, now. Life of the Party has several places for vine arrows, including the metal grates, so it's another good level to practice on, if it's not glitching.
