Some quick ones that come to mind:
Arcana - Nice little first person rpg on the snes. I really enjoyed it.
Eye of the beholder 1-3
Lands of Lore: Guardians of Chaos - Excellent game.
The Might and Magic series (Darkside of Xeen being my favorite of the lot)
If first person view whilst in combat and during dungeons counts then I would definately put Phantasy Star 1 on the list as well. Another excellent game.

Went and bought KF: Ancient City used.
It actually annoyed the piss outta me in the first half hour. Fell into lava twice two steps from the start (floor breaks there i noticed later). Took ages to beat up some flower because i didnt know about the stamina bar. Didnt know theres a sprint/walk faster than a stone button so i walked around with the default glacial speed for awhile. Fell to my death four times trying to get some boots. Drowned thrice before it dawned on me that there isnt some arcane button combinations to be pressed, you just cant swim but have to walk underwater. Plus the struggle with FPS controls on a console and no quicksave, ugh.
Persisted however and ya could say i got into it. Graphically its solid to pretty good (good framerate too, but its not exactly a racing game, soo..also no loading at all, frikkenthimbs), lotsa stuff to find, lotsa stuff to kill, lotsa places to explore (not copypasta of the same grey walls thankfully, theres plenty of variation), some mini quests, some minor puzzles of the "get item and use it there" variant (make sense and fit into the place mostly tho, no RE4 "place turtle icon and golden tiger into the snake to open the bathroom"), overall pretty captivating dungeon crawler stuff imho.
Reminds me very much of Arx Fatalis, if Am-Shakalaka walked like a mummy and turned like a crane :cheeky:

Maybe it's because I haven't played it in 3 years but I don't remember nearly as much obtuse puzzle/item bullshit in RE4 like there was in previous games.

Yeah, the stupid item puzzles had been toned down significantly in RE4.

RE4 basically seemed like Capcom's "oh yeah?" to Half-Life 2.
Not that I'm complaining. What a great fucking game. I really should fire that bitch up again, I just keep putting it off.

What? That seems like utterly random logic. Please explain.

Agreed.
So far I'm thoroughly unimpressed with RE4. The buying weapons & upgrades thing isn't enough for me to class it as an rpg either.
Its just not resident evil enough for my liking.

I mean RE4 was fucking awesome and you have no soul if you don't like it. I played it literally 3 months after HL2 and it felt like this was Capcom's finest moment at that point, just like HL2 was for Valve.

As far as I'm concerned RE 2 was Capcoms finest moment, Nemesis had it's moments too, but RE 4 just isn't very good.
