...or they've played games like Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3, in which there isn't body awareness.
I mean, Jesus, I only named the games specifically. Are you telling me the first person suffered
at all from third person mode's inclusion?
Hell, I had a friend who didn't even realize Oblivion had a third person mode until his second play-through.
I'll quote myself.

Whether people like Third person or not is irrelevant. I like watching too girls make out, but I don't expect it in a Thief game.
I actually love Third Persons in many games, games where Third Person appropriate is appropriate and complimentary to the gameplay, but not in a game that had been firmly established as an anti-shooter/ first person sneaker. Third person is not complimentary to Thief gameplay, it changes it into something quite different.
Third person is great. It just never belonged in a Thief game.
It's also not about what 'other' games did well with third person, it's about what is appropriate for the game and gameplay. Thief is a firmly established first person sneaker, they created the game on that idea. If it doesn't support the core gameplay, it doesn't belong there...and third person does not support the core of Thief gameplay.

try telling/explaining that to EidosMontreal. Afaik their design philosophy for DeusEx3 is/was that using cover or certain implants will switch to 3rd person as far as I remember. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I remember reading from them about DX3 concepts. Which shows they don't know a thing about DeusEx, they just wanna use an old and known IP to sell some units and you have to appease everybody, so why not use everything: 3rd person, 1st person, sneaking and shooting, big explosions and autoheal. DeusEx was always about brutal, visceral, cinematically staged combat and gore ;) as we all know here. So I'm sure EM will tell you THIAF4 was always about acrobatic movement across rooftops in 3rd person using EXPLODING ARROWS.
- I actually don't mean everything above, I still give Eidos the benefit of doubt and will wait for actual gameplay to judge it but I'm preparing myself for a fundamentally different gameplay experience for both games (aka mediocre current-gen idiot gameplay) and will try to judge it on that, not on what legacy the game has -

Strangely when I think of thi"4"f logo the above sentence somehow fits with it.
Hmm something in the above comparison landed me back on reality:(

Forgive my political incorrectness in the following sentences.
TDS, reminded me of a distant cousin of the first games, this whole THI4F thing makes me think this game is more like the distant cousin's retarded brother. It never came across as cool, or clever. It's too many years out of date for that.

Yeah, that's already been covered a half dozen times in this thread.

I like more the First Person, because if the game is a FPS (first person shooter), why it has to change the person? also the First person make the player think he is the character.

Thief IS an FPS, but it stands for First Person Sneaker.
