Of course, could've been worse doesn't make it better.:)

In a way, yes. To paraphrase Monty Python:
"#4: Crunchy Frog."
"We use only the finest baby frogs, dew picked and flown from Iraq, cleansed in finest quality spring water, lightly killed, and then sealed in a succulent Swiss quintuple smooth treble cream milk chocolate envelope and lovingly frosted with glucose."
"That's as may be, it's still a frog."

Any cinematic advantages to 3rd person were ruined by the mechanics.

I agree, infinity. TDS (3rd person) was the first time I felt my character to be so uncoordinated as to be embarrassing. 3rd person looked great, but was nigh on to impossible for me to get used to & manage. (Never had that problem in console games, though.)

I would suggest voting over at the Eidos forums. There is a 3rd vs 1st person poll there.

Forget about FP or TP, I want isometric view.
Just joking. My choice is FP, but done right not like in T: DS.

I like both. But if they can't do FPV properly because of the TPV, then loose the TPV, it's only an extra. I prefer the FPV too, of course.

I prefer the 1st person as well, but I do prefer having some sort of 'body awareness'. IE. . .looking down and being able to see feet/hands/body. Not only do I find this helpful knowing where I'm standing - particularly on ledges - but it adds a little less ghostly feel. :)
That being said, I sort of liked TDS' option for either. While I used 1st person more than I didn't, I found great amusement in making the 3rd person view hop fences. No idea why, it was just fun to watch!
On the other hand, I LIKE how 1st person leaves the character up to the player to visualize. What he looks like, etc. 3rd person tends to force someone else's idea on the player and 99% of the time it does not match up with what I would like to see.
But yeah, if given the option, I would say either 1st Person, or both, leaving the option open.

I played in first person all the way, but I did appreciate some of the Third person Garrett animations. I didn't understand leaning against the wall until I saw it in Third person, unintentionally. It was also helpful to see how low he actually does crouch, or how far he leans, ect. Not essential, but it helped to establish a few visual baselines.
Though this could easily be accomplished in a small character preview window, and is not really necessary for coding as playable though the whole game.
