As we all seem to be jack of all tradesmen round here I thought it's worth a shot asking this. Me and a couple of my buddies were thinking of taking up fishing as a hobby but to be honest I really know very little about it. How much would a good rod and tackle box capable of catching mackerel and the like cost me? Is that all I need? The only type of fish I'm interested in are the type you can eat, I wouldn't have an interest in catching for weight if that makes any difference...
(GBP please)

I'll have to ask my dad about this, since he's about one step short of obsessive over trout fishing.
Which, by the way, are good eating fish. I had some this weekend, and thought they were pretty decent.

Do your research to see what fish populate your local lakes, etc. You'll learn what to keep, what to throw back, weights, etc. My brother is an avid fisherman, and will fish year round, which includes ice fishing, crazy nut. You can go dirt cheap on a rod and reel, do your google searches, and learn.
