The Sun Within and the Sun Without was my first release:

This wasn't the first thing I built, though; I built and discarded a lot of other stuff while learning DromEd, and also built a very early prototype of what would later become
Heartcliff Islands (it was originally called
The Crate Escape and would involve escaping in different scenarios using only crates, but I later scratched that) before starting on my first release.
The sun in TSWTSW is too far from the origin to be entirely healthy (I pushed the limits a little there).

My first mission. It's full of some of the good and some of the bad that new designers fall into.

I also have done dev commentary on most of my missions. Search "slyfoxx thief" on you tube if you're interested.

For the record you can list FMs in ThiefMissions.com by author, and I think it's in release order. Then it's really easy to see everybody's first foray.

Last night, I played Beltzer's "Ransom" and nicked's "Treason and Plot". (I remembered "Ransom" from a previous playthrough. I don't think I had played "Treason and Plot" before.)
Yes, they have their rough edges - but both were perfectly enjoyable ways to spend 20-30 minutes.
I think that anyone who does anything creative knows the phenomenon of being more critical of one's own work than other people are. If my own work contained those same rough edges, I'd probably consider them irredeemable flaws. But of course they aren't.
So, this exercise seems to be having the desired effect - to encourage me that my own fledgling efforts might lead to something worthwhile after all.
I'm hoping to play some of the others this weekend. Feel free to keep 'em coming!

The Stupid Grimrock Quote Reloaded is my first (and only) real mission.
The fist part of the map is based on KOMAGs tutorial for DromEd beginners

I'm in no way a master, but I know how you feel, I released my first mission in April and I was extremely hesitant for the same reason : in comparison to the fan missions TTLG had already seen, mine felt a bit rubbishy!

I think you should take your time to create your mission and you should create it for the sake of having fun with DromEd, instead of creating a fan mission in order to release it. Just believe in yourself once you think your work is done and listen to criticism, you'll get way better!
You should also check out Niborius's fan missions, his first one was called "Aurumpendo" and the second one was "The Artifact Returns", it begins kind of rough on the edge, but it's pretty nice and has some neat ideas. Plus you can see what Nib improved while making the second one.
Finally, as already said by those gentlemen, the forum is filled with nice taffers ready to help you and to play your fan mission, amateurish or not. So go on and show us what you've got ;)
