Ok, I've played FM's before, but it has been a while. Did a system re-install becasue of a HDD failure and, of course, re-installed my Thief games (Thief Gold, Thief 2, & Thief 3.) Set up my fan missions, and decided to play some of them while I was at it. Only, "crash" went the game. It doesn't even get to the main menu, just dark screen followed by "Thief: The Dark Project has encountered an error and needs to close." What is boggling my mind is, as long as I'm playing the main game itself, it works just fine. Videos work, audio works (except one minor problem, I remember having but don't remember how/if I fixed it, still looking, more below,) every single mission works. Downlaoded a new FM, and same problem. Turned off HW acceleration on video. Downgraded video drivers as far as I could. Turned of HW acceleration on audio. Tried installing in different directories, even the default directory. Even installed a No-CD patch to see if that had any effect. I installed Dromed (though I usually just install the convict.osm, schemas, & scripts I downloaded.) Re-downloaded the FMs. Set the compatablility mode to 95 & 98 (which kept the game from loading into original missions, & FM's still crashed before the menu.) I've checked ownership & access to the game directory (and all daughter objects.) I'm out of things to try. And, yes, I didabled all but one CPU to the exe files.
Running WinXP pro SP3, ATI Radeon HD4650, Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme, Dual Core 2.4 Ghz, 2G RAM.
p.s. A minor audio problem. I remember having the problem before, and seem to recall (but am not completely sure,) I got it fixed. But for some reason Audio HW Acceleration is green (as if I could change it,) but clicking on it won't switch it from OFF to ON. Minor problem, I just sort of liked the EAX effects. My searches only result in unrelated problems that I never experienced myself.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me :)

Did you patch it with Ddfix and Tafferpatcher?

Just tried DDFix, and worked with the ddfix.ini to try different settings, without it helping any. I couldn't find a Tafferpatcher that worked with Thief Gold (or Thief 1,) only Thief 2. Am I missing something?

Sorry, my bad, I forgot Tafferpatcher is only for T2. Check if the resolution in your cam.cfg matches the one in ddfix.ini

Sorry it took so long, the ddfix.ini doesn't have the resolution listed anywhere in there, and the readmie didn't tell me how to specify it. Was searching for better instructions and finally had to track down an older version with the GUI and have it build me an INI that included the propper entries.
Ok, they are the same. 1024x768. Also tried 640x480 and 800x600. My LCD is fixed at 1366x768 which is why I generally use 1024x768 (rather have the black bars than the blurring from my "monitor" adjusting the resolution, it doesn't do it that well.) Tried setting DDFix & Cam to 1366x768 and it looks awesome, but crashes when I exit a mission :(

THat's all I could think of :( I did have a similar problem a year back with Thief Gold, where I installed it on my sister's laptop (which has the same configuration as my pc, Win 7 x64, dual core, 4gb RAM, nearly identical Nvidia card), and when I entered into a new game it would run fine but it would crash within 5 minutes, and if I went into the options menu it caused it to crash immediately. I installed it exactly the same way as on my pc (where it runs fine); I even tried deleting the game folder and replacing it with the one I had installed on my pc, but nothing worked. I just can't explain it; the 2 systems are virtually identical but it wouldn't work on the laptop

Ok, got it fixed, but the method was strange (to me at least.)
In my searches, came across instructions to "Move all crf files to the RES directory" in order to prepare the install for FMs. When I did that, it started crashing. So, looking at the resname_base line in install.cfg I added \RES to the C:\Games\ThiefG entry. It still crashed, so I almost decided to stop there. On a hunch, I changed it to include BOTH C:\Games\ThiefG "and" C:\Games\ThiefG\RES and it started loading just fine again. Now, all the FMs load just fine as well :)
Now my only problem is enabling the Audio HW Acceleration again. I should be able to, but it won't let me :( Back to searching again.
Thanks for your help everyone :)
