but I hope when I do die I will make the same sound as Garrett, when he dies...especially the TDS death rattle..thats fab!
Well that's... special. I'd rather die peacefully in my sleep once I've gotten old, preferably before losing too much of my mind and health.

You can achieve an awful lot using stock resources, I love how FM designers are so creative with them.
One question though, with the latest patch to the Darkengine (thank you whoever you are for releasing it) do we still need Telliameds and Gaylesayvers scripts ?
Sorry to be off topic

IMO, custom ressource are just a little part of a mission, a kind of a bounty to increase effects or help you to do that you want to do.
For exemple if you want a horror ambient with some scary objects but the objects that you want to put does not exist, or if the textures do not satisfy you. Then, custom ressource have their useful part!
But If you can do your mission with original stuff, why not?
That could be good!

Thanks all for the lovely replies :thumb: It is good to read that fm's with no custom stuff will still be appreciated. I am still going through the tutorials and I have forgotten so much but it is fun to do.
@ Esme, I have no idea but doesn't it come with it anyway?
In general I love the original game play and hopefully I can create something similar into a nice small simple mission. But we'll see...
Happy taffing :D

Script modules are always separate from the engine, so they are still needed by any FMs that use them. These days almost all FMs include whichever script modules they need in their ZIP files, though.
Another reason not to worry too much about custom stuff is that the Enhancement Pack and various texture packs are available to players. With perhaps just one click in TafferPatcher, anyone could be already set up to play your FM with high-res objects and textures - or have chosen to stick with the originals.

Best of luck to you! While the new textures, AI, etc. are very cool, it is a really good story line and great build that makes a great game. One of my favorite LPs of all time is the white album from the Beatles. Not a lot of fancy graphics there either.
On another note, your coming out of the woodwork makes me thnk again about maybe taking up DromEd. i played around with it last night and it was easier than I had remembered. Maybe, just maybe I might try a tiny mission. It's taking the time to do it that is the hard part. I hope you do take that time. Many people here really appreciate the new FMs.
Cheers,
BJack

azrarhn, I'll tell you more: there was even a contest with primary rule not to use any of the custom resources. Classic Thief Experience Contest, if I remember correctly. You can try those missions and see for yourself ;)

But I think there will always be people here that appreciate your stuff. New is always
However, I myself sometimes wonder: if I make an FM and release it in, say, 2015, will there even be people to still care? It would then be nearing 2 decades since Thief came out! But then, even in 2010 I was sure that in a year or two much less people would care. I really lack perspective on this topic :laff:
Sorry for mouthing off off-topic...
I lost interest in video games a couple years ago. Nothing seemed to recapture the magic. Then I reinstalled Thief to show my wife the excellent story and we're halfway through Gold. That feeling I had playing the first time is right back. Although the community will wax and wane with age, I don't see it dying.

But it also makes me wonder, will people still play fm's that has no custom objects, scripts, textures and so on?
People definitely play them. Some of my favorite FMs are those that provide classic Thief gameplay and atmosphere, and you don't need any custom content for that.
I even built some FMs using stock resources only and people also played and hopefully enjoyed them ;)
So, go one, fire up DromEd and see what you can do. I'm sure folks here will love it, as we all appreciate the effort and creativity needed for building an FM with DromEd.

I think the gameplay and architecture matter the most, not custom stuff.
