Pretty much what everyone said: story and gameplay first, visuals next. After all, who would play 15 years old game for visuals? It's not like it's gonna beat "Crysis" (or whatever's currently on top) ;)
... Though I have to admit, some of the FMs looks amazing, even in today's standard.
BUT!
Even in terms of visuals, custom stuff is not the most important thing - design is. If you make a row of big, ugly blocks, no amount of custom stuff will make them look good. If you create realistic looking rooms with detailed architecture, varied textures and some atmospheric lighting, you can get amazing effects. Going back to some of my favourite FMs, with better knowledge about DromEd and stuff, I'm amazed how little they rely on custom resources. Great usage of stock resources makes them almost unnoticeable and certainly untroublesome.

Sure nice to read that most of you think story/setting/gameplay is more important then custom stuff :thumb:
I finally had some inspiration about a (hopefully) nice little setting/story and now all I have to do is build it :p
