I can see the Tim Schafer in the art direction, yes. But Psychonauts & Grim Fandago (for example) also had a stylish charm to the look of the game. Even if this carries alot of the same characteristics, it looks like they copied the outward appearance but missed the atmosphere or substance. It also reminds me of Corpse Bride, a similar disappointment that was more of a copycat style (but here Burton was copying himself) without really getting it. (Though Corpse Bride did look stunning, the weaknesses were in pretty much everything else.)

In fairness I don't think McGhee had anything to do with Scrapland besides branding. From memory it was made by some studio who were the remnants of the guys who made Severence (so I guess they're Spanish). Judging by the demo it seemed like the game had been repositioned to death; from adventure, to shooter to quirky kids game. The bizarrely childish, and grating, voice acting is testament to..something bad anyway. It's like they saw that Robots movie was coming out and wanted to trail in the wake a bit (but that ended up bombing).

Ah, so this is why Gametap is shutting down Myst Online.
I'm ashamed to say I haven't played Alice yet. But it's certainly on my list.

Dammit, just when I wanted to try Uru online, they're closing it down!?
Oh well. Back to TF2, then.

It's worth mentioning that American McGee's last good game (Alice) was made in America by experienced developers at EA. The last game that he made (Bad Day L.A.) was made by McGee heading up his own Shanghai dev team, as is this current game.
It's pretty obvious that he has management problems, and doesn't know how to build or direct a large, inexperienced team.

Did I already mention something about Jon Romero? Oh yeah, I did. Sometimes these studio heads remind me of Eddie Van Fucking Halen.

Most of us here are a dark, edgy, brood, looking for something grimmy, grimmie? to get our hands on, this ain't it. *sigh*
What they are doing these days with games, to me, sucks. :(
