Then again, I would have never given Psychonauts a second glance if not for the recommendations from ttlgers. :erg:

The Tim Schafer games are all ones that I feel ashamed to have never played. :(

I'm still worried about diminishing returns, fun-wise, with the two upcoming Lego games. Psychonauts and Grim Fandango, though, are still pinnacles of computer game storytelling, as far as I'm concerned.

Go over to Gametap and get a free month so you can play it. Well worth putting down whatever other game you're playing at the moment.

Hmmm, I might tap that. You just might have talked me into that one. I am dying to sink my teeth into something lately, good god I can taste it.
How immersive is it? Got some beta testing for one of my favorite FM authors coming up in about one to two weeks.
Thanks for the heads up. :->

It's also a little odd that they're boasting about making 'dreary' fairy tales which were already pretty dark and twisted to begin with, only to get happy'd up by Disney or somesuch? So it's dreary stories that were made happy and your job is to make them dreary again? Huh?
I just found this quote on American's blog...sounds pretty much exactly like what you described:
Quote:
Well, one core concept of Grimm is that present day versions of fairy tales have been made too light. The teeth have been removed from them - effectively rendering their morals and messages mute. Until the threat is re-instated, what's the point? And that's Grimm's mission in a nutshell: return overly-sweet tales to their original forms - full of harm, hurt, and revenge.

Can they bring back dodge ball too? :(

Alice only held my attention for the first few levels, then it started feeling like something churned out by the Platform-o-matic machine. The atmosphere rocked - I just wanted to stand around in it, but the gameplay was meh.
I think American McGee is one of those Jon Romero types - overhyped and overpaid. Alice was good for it's time, but have you played Scrapland? What a turd. He's just never been that consistent to me, so I approach each release of his with great trepidation.
I'll pass. Can't say much more than that, you've summed it all up perfectly.
