as long as modern comps run them and the community is still interested in making them it can on a long time, since we are kinda on first run from a long lasting game, there is no record of results post 20 years since game came out
over time though from other games i seen that had a fan community, seems like less and less people join, but i feel thief thief reboot we got a second life to board,so we all can ride the wave for a good decade at least, who know if a massive project gets released down the road it might give it a third life,as i felt tx2 was a good shot to community life also, but i think my point is made

typically only playing Thief from time to time from November through March
This is precisely what I do. :D Lol. I thought I was the only one out there who does this. For the last 15 years or so, I come back here to the forums and play Thief 2 from around the end of November or the first of December through the end of March. I call it my "Thief season." This way, I never get burned out playing my favorite game and it always gives me something to look forward to at the end of each year.

I pace myself also,
typically only playing Thief from time to time from November through March. There's nothing like a good fan mission when it's too ugly and cold to do anything outside. I would think that I'll never get to all of them either.
It surely adds to the game atmosphere.

Yeah, I agree with Relayer. For some reason, Thief has never seemed like a game to play in the spring or summer. Something about it being more enjoyable during the colder months. I swear, I thought I was the only one who thought this way.

cavador - My thinking is pretty much in line with yours. I don't want to get burned out on the game, I don't want to go through the content too quickly and it gives me something to look forward to in the Fall/Winter.
I refuse to become a couch potato (other than for playoff football), I need something that challenges my brain and what better time of year than when other activities slow down just a little bit.

Exactly, you and I think alike. ;)

I do worry about a post-TTLG future and what that will do to the Thief fan Mission community and output. Without TTLG I wouldn't have known FMs existed or how to even play them. At the very least I think FMs will be a thing as long as TTLG is around. Hopefully they will continue to be a thing far into the future.

It's a tangent to the main question of the thread, but I'll bite.
I too play Thief during the colder seasons. Every year I start around the middle of October and play through... about late January, maybe longer, depending on what other interests or games I'm into.
I've been doing this so long that when we start to have autumnal days in early October my wife will cheerfully observe, "Starting to feel like Thief season!"
As for how long new FMs will pop-up, it depresses me to think there might be a day when they stop popping up. I hope TTLG admins are training their children on how to run web forums and I hope Dromed and Dark Mod authors are training their children how to make Thief missions. :thumb:

You too Twist? Wow. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I am admittedly not the most normal person in the world. I thought this was just another one of my idiosyncrasies. :cheeky:
