I do think that putting a gas lamp out with your fingers is a bit... tedious. I don't think that it's really possible without getting some pretty bad burns after a few tries.

The candle snuffer, now that would be interesting. But, if you have to go into the lit area to put it out, then it's not really practical, is it? It would only be useful if you're trying to get past a patroling gaurd...

Heck, why not just start every mission with a bucket of water for those torches? There are enough toilets and pools around to refill it. If you can pluck fifty golden cups and a bottle of fine wine without slowing down, what's a bucket gonna hurt?

Find a collection of shot glasses, and drop one onto the gas jet. Maybe fill it with water first, if that somehow doesn't work.

Shot glass? Well, actually, with all the alchohol around, that wouldn't be too far fetched...

Or do they only drink wine?

Wine glasses might work. They seem to be made out of some kind of metal anyway...

Or a bowl, or a flour tin, or a unconsious person (we know that there are too many of those lying around. that is, if you don't ghost the missions)
