I need to upgrade my Pentium III to a IV and get an Audigy 2 card. I downloaded the demo and was happy to at least play it for 5 minutes before it locked up. I was only able to do that with sound hardware acceleration turned off. I will have TDS on Monday.
I wonder if it is better to buy a motherboard and chip or buy a new pc.

A VERY appropriate thread :)
Well my excuse is that it isn't out here, till the end of next month, and when it does come out, I'm going to have to hope I'll have my mid-year-break job (cause I'm at Uni) so I can make sure I have enough money behind me, for my computer upgrade, so I can play Thief 3 at it's best :)

lol....I'm at uni too but down in Sydney
haven't bought it yet because
1. it's not out yet down under
2. I wanted to see whether you lucky US taffers were having any probs
3. My computer needs an upgrade..still GeForce 2 unfortunately...and I want to wait and see which card to buy before I fork out any cash. And I am still deciding whether to upgrade sound card too.
which is a bit of a bum since I would download the demo but my comp can't handle it yet.

Every now & then, ya just gotta take a stand. Parallel platform development is such a fork in the road & for me = NO SALE.
Yeah. I know it's not my world any more. The loss is mutual.
Meanwhile, U7 & the BG series offer nearly infinite replayability & my OSA guy remains eternally stuck in medsci.

Why haven't I bought it yet? $$$$
I'm running Win98, so I'd have to upgrade to XP.
XP won't run on my motherboard (somesort of design flaw), so new mobo is required.
My ram (all 512mb of it) is SDRAM, which would have to be replaced with DDR.
Too many upgrades necessary for this game...
Stinks too, Thief 1 & 2 are my faves... :erg:

I'm still waiting for it to arrive in our stores...
And, waiting for the demo to get downloaded.
Will buy it though

Apart from the XBasic version (which is overpriced) basically for most PC people, this is a five hundred dollar game or more. They've written it for the minority and for the few who can just squeeze together enough cash to push themselves into the minority by adding expensive extra bits of hardward that they don't really want or need except for a few days playing this game (some have already finished it)
Good as it may be, is it worth $500 plus ?
Thief 2 cost me about $170 including a graphics card used for nothing else and which is now made obsolete by TDS. TDS will cost me a minimum of $250 without proper sound and I am doubtful if it will run well or if at all. The only other upgrade I can make will cost me an additional $450 approx. - total $700. To be used for Notepad and email until Thief 4 comes out when the whole thing would be repeated no doubt.
Plus all the hassle of fixing glitches and problems and configuring. Now I know why many like games consoles. Just stick it in and you know it will run.

Having just downloaded the demo, I can confess that T3 will NOT run on a WindowsME system with a 1GHz P3 processor.
If you can do T3, I envy you. For my part, I'll just do another T2 FM, if only for my own pleasure.

Because it's not available here in the UK yet.
I do, naturally, have it pre-ordered though. £17.99 with free delivery on play.com :laff:
I'm playing the hell out of the demo in the meanwhile.

Parallel platform development has been done successully with other games. But in this case, I think parallel game and parallel platform development was bad. They started with a problematic homegrown game engine and then made 2 games concurrently on it. What we ended up with are 2 games with similar features, similar problems, and similar shortcomings.
