Im not gonna change your opinion here, but come on. Everything is vulnerable. Live a little. buy a cheap HD, and only use xp for thief. could even unplugg.
and xp is just as secure as any other windows out there. which isnt saying much. but thats another rant.
But they don't need XP to play the game. :) From my previous post:
1 Download PE Explorer
2 Backup "T3Main.exe" and "Default.ini" for patching puposes
3 Apply any patches
4 Open PE Explorer
5 Go to File > Open File > "T3Main.exe"
6 Go to View > Resources
7 Select Icon Entry and delete it
8 Save and exit
9 Open "Default.ini"
10 Find the line "LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=False" and change it to "True"*
11 Save and exit
12 Enjoy game

Like most people, my computer can't handle it(I have a voodoo 3, which can't run NOLF2), and It'll be a couple years before I have the cash. That and it sounds merely decent, rather then great, so I'll wait until it's cheap.

My brother's computer is a 1.8 Athlon with a GeForce 4 card, all the other requirements are surpassed but the above are stopping me. I don't have enough money and Thief 3 (legal version) is hard to get in Australia.
In the meantime I'm buying up on great bargain bin games that run on my computer like "No one lives forever 2" and "Medieval War". I'll definetly buy Thief 3 when I get a better video card or whatever. By then Thief 3 may be in the bargain bin and the editor may be released (wishful thinking).

Got it, possible to play TDS without XP. That's good news. I still need a graphics card, but I've got several games to play first, that don't require any upgrades. I'll get around to in someday tho.
My friends and I are messing around with Unreal Tournament 2004 right now, we'll see how long that lasts.

If you can't afford a new PC I strongly urge you to grab an XBox. I bought both versions as it was going cheap on PC, my PC sucks though.
The frame rate on XBox is really good in third person and great on a large TV with widescreen mode on. I found the first person mode a bit strange like you have a bucket on your head. Plus I love to play it in my room in the dark as opposed to using the "family" PC. The only thing wrong is the difficulty bug, but I didn't really notice much difference and it only exists when you save the game! It's more intense not to save your game. Two thumbs up!

Havn't bought it mainly because I have been busy playing IRL: Migrating Networks to Windows 2003. It's a fun game, though a bit stressfull, and it has a steep learning curve.
I am also holding out for a more polished version of TDS since the one they (Eidos) released was (imho) just to cash in on what they could. I'll probably be waiting a long long time...
I also want to see an editor.
And I need a new video card.

At first, I was waiting on the demo. Then, I just wasn't "in a rush." I'm playing several other games/projects at the moment.
Now, I'm insanely paranoid that the minute I buy it, they'll announce:
"Thief: Deadly Shadows GOLD! 5 New Levels! Mission Editor! Patch 2.0 built-in!"
And then I'll be screwed/bitter/have to buy it twice (or worse which I DON'T wanna do).
So the hesitation continues...

Praise the Builder! I'm a taffer reborn!
I finally decided to get Thief 3. I delayed for so long because I read very mixed reviews about it, and I already had felt that Thief 2 was a disappointment compared to thief 1 (except life of the party!). So, I had little hope left for the Thief franchise and felt that nothing could ever get me close to the feeling I had playing through the original thief, but Thief 3 proved me wrong.
Anyway, after playing through Thief 3 once, I think it's a brilliant game (especially the later levels: the clocktower, the cradle, etc.) I thought the developers did a very good job at satisfying old fans of the series by bringing back old favorites like the undead and references to burricks (the game could have used a few revamped burricks!). I thought Gamall was a great villain--she was what I had always hoped Karras would be instead of the little gimp with a gold mask and a droopy-dog voice that he turned out to be.
I love the walking statues. I love backstabbing.
Balance.
