For those who have SB Live! (maybe Audigy too) and play T1/2 under WinXP - by 242

I have always played the games on XP (& SBLive) and wondered why the volumes were so "off". Great post on how to fix.
Domarius - I noticed that every time I went to the Audio setting screen (not touching, just looking), the value for master_volume would return to -1. Right now my only suggestion is the obvious one- don't look at the settings except through cam.cfg. Maybe someone else has another suggestion/fix?
Also, does it matter how many sfx channels I use? Does it make any difference to the volume? I am not using EAX (just don't like it- everything sounds strange).

Really? I never looked at the *sound* options screen after I adjusted master_volume in cam.cfg so I didn't notice that. Then I guess your suggestion to not look at the sound settings is the only means to keep the master volume at 1600. Strange that -1 works for Win98/Me and not for WinXP.

I think it doesn't matter.

Hmm, I like how EAX works in T1/2 on SB Live!. BTW, T2 was often bundled with SB Live! to demonstrate its possibilities.

Now that I'm playing T2X... "Hm, doors closed, lights out, and a suspicious female grunting sound... sad boy.".

Awesome...I'm definitely going to try that. :thumb:
In TG I had been experiencing a very odd "swell" with the EAX reverbs in the game. It was similar to maxing out the 'delay time/repeat' and 'threshold' settings on a reverb processor (I'm an recording engineer by trade), which can produce a deafening feedback loop. That can be good for music sometimes, but bad for games. T:MA however gives me no grief with EAX for some reason.
